ICC Test team of the Year

Averaging 31 v New Zealand doesn't stack up too well, though.

I can see the case for SRT there, but regardless of that surely Bell ranks over de Villiers, Sangakkara or Amla, particularly as the selection criteria don't include picking opening batsmen to open or specialist keepers to keep wicket!

No it isn't considering that the last two tests of eng v ind series don't count.
Oh, I didn't realise it wasn't up until now. Re-doing statsguru and finishing on 3rd August then... In that case, Bell averages 25 more than Tendulkar over the voting period (90 vs 65), and scored one more hundred.

Tendulkar averged 131 against australia.
Actually good point... runs scored against a minnow at home shouldn't count. Just makes the gap bigger. ;)

someone will say at least he didn't pad up his avg against nz like dravid, sehwag..

I was only pointing out that it's not 'ridiculous' to pick him ahead of bell.

Tendulkar over Bell is ridiculous, Bell averaged 30 more and scored one more hundred.

at the end of the day what really builds your reputation is performances against the top sides.... reason why kallis wasn't rated highly until last summer.

Sanga over Prior is such a gear-grinder. He doesn't keep any more & has scored fewer runs more slowly at a lower average.

One wonders what more Matty could've done, tbh.

Prior's average also regularly takes a bit of a beating from declaration chases. He's like the reverse of Donkey Panesar.

I can only assume they didn't want too many England players in the side. The fact that we have five and jusitifiably should have two more hammers home how much we have dominated.

The short-lists

Cricketer of the Year: Hashim Amla, Alastair Cook, Sachin Tendulkar, Jonathan Trott
trott has a good chance. would be great if he got it because it'll prove that the jury are not biased towards an iconic player.

Test Player of the Year: James Anderson, Alastair Cook, Jacques Kallis, Jonathan Trott
Probably cook mainly because of his unprecedented success in aus.

Test playe ought to be Jimmy IMO. Of the three English players, I think he has been the most crucial to our success.

GIMH

Norwood's on Fire
Yes he is.

Broad missed Melbourne and Sydney
Tremlett missed Adelaide and 3 V India
Brezza missed Adelaide, Cardiff and Lord's

EDIT - obviously Brezza and Tremlett didn't play against Pakistan either

He didn't really contribute to the Cardiff collapse but he was the pick of our seamers in the 1st dig

I think that this has to be a joke, mainly Sangakkara. To be named keeper and captain of this team wgen he holds neither position for S.R. seems at best strange. Prior really deserved this honour. If they are using make shift openers, why not Dravid? Bell too seems to have earned a spot some where in the team. Steyn and Anderson has especially earned their selections as well as Kallis and Cook.
Slight off topic post
Why couldnt this panel have also selected the all time XI as well instead of the fans?

OMM!

U19 12th Man
The non inclusion of Matt Prior is the most laughable thing I've ever seen!

The whole concept becomes a pointless joke if you don't do it properly!

Sangakkara has been selected because he did a bit of talking from a piece of paper!

Can't see how Broad is in the Test team. He didn't do anything for most of the period in question until the last 2 Tests.

7 Tests 15 wickets at 46.13 econ 2.98 s/r 92.7
2 Tests 15 wickets at 11.33 econ 2.09 s/r 32.5 v India

See earlier post - I don't think Zaheer's played enough either.

Test team of the year in my book = the cricketers who performed the best throughout the relevant period (weighted to make sensible team). Not the same as the World XI currently.
Broad has played 9 matches while Zaheer and Tremlett have played 7 matches.

Infact Zaheer's bowling average is the best of anyone in the period who has played 5 matches. Even better than Steyn or Anderson.

Actually you cannot include any South African's if you go by what you are saying.

Steyn,Kallis and ABDV have all only played 5 matches.
