Allan Donald to be India's new bowling coach?

Woodster

International Captain
Must admit would have been surprised had Donald taken that role, I understood he wanted to spend more time in SA with his family which is why he left the role with England.

nope , infact it is a guy called Eric Simons who is the new bowling coach LINK
Odd if Simons is now a specialist bowling coach - given that he was an all-rounder I'd not have thought specialist coaching was the way he'd go. Indeed he was head-coach at SA.

I doubt that specialist bowling coach will be his actual role - he is probably hired mainly to take the load off Kirsten's shoulders.

The BCCI would do well to have coaches and support staff appointed for a long term- no more one-series-only appointments, as it doesn't do the team any good.

Would agree here. No coach can make their mark instantly and require at least a calender year, if not more to show tangible improvement to a whole team.

Yea, agreed. What are they going to fix in one series?

Ideally, you spend a lot of time trying to pick the right person, but then give him plenty of time to implement their strategies, unless something catastrophically bad happens. I'd even go so far as to say you give them one full cycle of the FTP, to show what they can do home and away and cope with all the possible situations.

It is a shame that we do not get to see an insight into the sort of work that bowling coaches do with international teams. We can only speculate but I think that it'd have been fascinating to find out what Prasad exactly coached the bowlers to do and compare that with the work of Allan Donald or Ottis Gibson with the England side.

I support short term contracts. The captain and the head coach can have a trial of the new coaching staff this way and weed out the bad coaches quickly instead of waiting for their contracts to end after giving them a long contract. Correctional measures can be done quickly this way.

Too many cooks spoil the broth. Especially the last thing a struggling young fast bowler wants is varied barrage of advice from different guys.

Disagree. Much better to do some research beforehand rather than employ a large number on a trial basis.
