Two pigeons were killed in the 1999 World Cup match between Australia and (I think) Pakistan. Not very laughable for the bird, obviously, but at least it wouldn't have felt much pain.

There's no footage of the 1999 WC game on YouTube though.

Yeah. I remember Gillespie taking one out of the boundary. Sad demise.

The other one was Gillespie, was it? Reiffel definately got one, but I don't remember the other.

Happened in a game I was playing once. Batsman hit a boundary, and collected a bird sitting just on the edge of the rope. We just took it off the field and kept on going.

I seem to recall someone hitting one against Sri Lanka in the 2002 Natwest Series (Tendulkar?) and all the Sri Lankans being very concerned because of their Buddhist beliefs.
