Boje the vice captain and the only spinner of any good withdraws from the touring squad to india :-O

.as the indian police did nto give him any assurance that he wont be called up for questioning

dippenar is the new vice captain

and langaveldt is selcted in place if i remember correctly
You just couldn't make this stuff up, I wouldn't like to be around if a groundsman decides on a seamers/neutral track. Smith and Rudolph should get plenty of bowling, as they will when England rack up 400+ consistently against them in a few months.

England will be the favourites but overconfidence is the only way in which they could lose the series. There have been shocking results recently but all of those have been away series. However, South Afirca's record at home will provide much more of a challenge to the England team.

What I'm concerned about is that the chief executive of the United Cricket Board (UCB), Gerald Majola, told parliamentarians Tsolekile "should walk into the team" ahead of Boucher last week.

Smacks of, well, the ZCU.
They basically need a non white player to fill the gap left by Herschelle Gibbs.. Thats what they have got *shrugs*...

Ermmm, if Langeveldt replaces Boje does that mean they are going to India without a single specialist spinner. Good luck to them

Any volunteers to go out there?

They might rush through a passport for Neil, would fill the Ginger quota.

Langeveldt (the forum poster) here is your chance, since you support them.

If I was Boje, I would have gone, if anybody can tell me what the Indian police are going to gain by interviewing him four and a half years after this all happened, then there is a free drink on me of your choice waiting for you in the CW Bar.

I think if there was anything new to have been discovered, we would have found out by now.

Is it just me, or is the the fact Gibbs and Boje aren't going mean there is more to it than we are lead to believe, or are they afraid the Indian authorities might abuse there power?

Please note, this is not an attack on the Indian authorities as I do not know the history of policing in India. It is a question, and a question only.

I think it is a fear of abuse of power.

Some local bigwig decides to make a name for himself by taking them in for questioning whilst they're fielding in a Test?

India have named a Board Presidents X1 team to meet RSA:

Board President's XI Gautam Gambhir, Dheeraj Jadhav, Sadagoppan Ramesh, Hemang Badani, Venugopal Rao, Dinesh Mongia, Sairaj Bahutule (capt), Ramesh Powar, Shib Shankar Paul, Amit Bhandari, MS Dhoni (wk), Suresh Raina, Avishkar Salvi, Joginder Sharma.

Interesting to see Ramesh get a recall. It shows what a mess the opening situation is though.

Bit disappointed Bahatule continues to get picked -- I would have preferred to see a young leg spinner like Golwalkar.

Whatever it takes!!!
It would be interesting to see how MS Dhoni fairs. People rate his batting but I am not sure how good he is as a keeper.

He's averaging 55 in List A OD Cricket!
Something not many people, even in Indian Domestic Cricket end up doing.

Eg. Sriram averages only 31, Yuvraj only 29-30, Dinesh Karthik only 19, Kambli only 45 odd.

Hopefully Ramesh scores some runs, I think he would suit Sehwag at the top of the order. The last I saw of him in Australia he seemed to have a very good defence and rotated the strike well.

Agree with your comments on Ramesh, from what I have seen of him ! I hope this will give him an opportunity to get back into the Team.

The fear that they may get arrested on arrival in India, suggests to me there must be more to it than that which meets the eye.

Obviously the Indian Authorities must be aware of the King commission findings ! Their not being satisfied with that alone would suggest they have more questions and issues in their investigations.

If the two concerned were innocent they needn't have any fear of travel to India. Their late withdrawal for personal reasons would suggest, they are themselves fearful of consequences !!

Just out of interest, does India have extradition laws with SA ? and would they still be able to request the two players to be presented in India for investigation if they so desired?

And what about the SA cricket board's manner of protecting these players(by allowing them to withdraw and thus avoid dealing with the issue) when criminal issues and charges seem to be pending in India ? Is that right ? Is it the best way of handling this whole matter ? by trying to avoid facing it ?

Shouldn't they rather try and discuss with the Indian Police and try and complete the Investigation (in the interests of the two players concerned ).

I could do a reverse K Peterson (Except im not a whining little sh*t)
Wouldnt be able to qualify properly though because I have to spend time in England during my flight training in order to complete it.. Otherwise I'd be down the nets every day till they drop Robbie P!

With Jadhav and Gambhir in the side, I dont know if they will open with Ramesh.
