    Yeah, I agree with this. I think the lack of opportunity for so many years to make it into the Australian side had an effect. Competition for spots is healthy, you need to give the younger guys something to aspire to. From 1998 - 2007 there were limited opportunities to get into the team, that's 9 years for a promising 20 year old to either be 29 or playing another sport.

    I think people saying they're just not good enough are under-estimating the effect of knowing no matter what you do, you won't get in the team. Players who get comfortable at state level for years are less likely to be as impressive when they step up as guys who have had to jostle for an opportunity, in my opinion.
