*Official* Fifth Test at the SCG

Must be frustrating but if these guys are being told to play their natural games, and for most of them it's to play their shots, then I suppose it's inevitable if you try and do so against the new ball or if it's swinging and seaming around much. More common sense required, or if they can't apply themselves to the situation, then perhaps less flashier options are around in Sheffield Shield, batsmen that are willing to scrap for their runs without necessarily looking good.
Hughes wasn't blasting it around 'playing his natural game', though. Until he edged it, that is. If Smith is in as a specialist batsman, then he should be playing equally as cautiously.

I didn't understand why people were saying that Clarke had told everyone to play naturally. Watson was much more cautious than usual, as was Hughes. Watson hardly played a shot actually, very unlike him.

Tbf, it was Clarke that said he'd told them all to play their natural game.

Hughes wasn't trying to blast it around in this Test, I was talking generally of Australia's batting throughout the series. You're right Watson and Hughes didn't in the first session, but there are countless other examples of very loose strokeplay during this series.

Still a fair bit in this tbh. Second new ball nagging about too. Makes for good cricket.

Hilf to do something with the ball. You hear it here first.

Pretty bloody disappointing stuff by us. Would've expected Haddin and Hussey to plummell you with the bat again
