*Official* Fifth Test at the SCG

Hes not been at his very best, but you're still talking bollocks.

Hes been very important today, bowling more overs than everyone else for not much and creating some trouble along the way. He did the same in Melbourne, which was yet another seamers wicket btw.

Oh, and we wouldn't have won in Adelaide without him
.
You'd have won that in any case imo though Swann bowled very well.

That's an overstatement tbh. You'd have won that in any case imo though Swann bowled very well.
Don't know how you work that out.

We were a seamer down and Australia were just 2 hours from rain and safety. Swann took 5 wickets...pretty crucial.

Please cancel the Allan Border Medal for this year

Losing to India, drawing with minows Pakistan and getting pantsed by the Poms in our own fortress!

How hollow, macabre and self-mocking will that gala event be!!!

Was always unlikely to average much below 40 in Australia

Two hours is a long time to run through a tail with a high-class seam attack...

Some of you are suggesting that Swann under performed this series, but I don't think so. He was never as good of a bowler as his performances made him out to be in the last year.

I think he's done fine has Swann. Aside from Brisbane he's done exactly what the captain has asked of him. Stats aside that's what you've got to do.

Big day still for Steve Smith tomorrow. Final impressions count, and to leave a 40 not out to foment in the minds of the selectors until August is much different to being out yet again for a sub 30 score.

Congrats to Eng

Outplayed Australia in virtually every aspect both on and off the field

Nothing more can be said about Australia that wasnt obvious to all bar the most parochial supporters BEFORE the series

This + bowling off spin in Oz is a thankless task

Best thing that can happen is this defeat causes a huge change at the top of Australian cricket. Selectors, coach, captain and certain players all need reviewing.

Well said

Well done England

For Australia, can we please move on from the Hilditch/Nielsen/Ponting reign. Those guys have had FOUR YEARS to rebuild from the McGrath/Warne/Langer etc days and, given that professional sport is results-based, you would have to say they have utterly failed.

I think four years is a fair go.

Smith's batting is improving and he is definitely one for the future

However, it is a total mystery how he could be played as virtually a specialist batsman both in front of guys like Khawaja and at no. 7 in this test

Lol but it's not just that is it.

He also bowled 41 overs for less than 100 runs, building and creating pressure, taking 5 wickets. No way would our reduced attack been able to win there with someone of his quality imo.

I just can't fathom how we would have been able to succeed here without him. But I shouldn't expect you to agree, I know how much Australians love to go on about finger spinners in Australia.

For ****s sake, can you guys please stop bitching about the selectors or the captains. We lost because we were crap in batting, bowling and fielding. A cricket team is not an empire, nobody reigns it.
