Ronaldo's been poor domestically for a couple of seasons.

He's perfected the art of doing little in a game but popping up with a goal. Credit to him, he still gets things done on the big stage but his performances in big games has been poor. He was rotten in this year's Champions League final for instance.

I think people just look at what his team accomplishes and attribute that to him. Like the 'he's won an international tournament' thing - he went off injured in the final after 20 minutes.

Both have dropped off their mental peak, just think Ronaldo raises his game back to the old level at the important time more often.

Over the course of the season, Messi has been way better. The first half of Ronaldo's season was tripe and by the time he regained his form, the league title was gone.

Don't find him too unlikeable at all though. And attempting to diminish what he did vs Spain is crazy. It'd have been a very good performance even if he hadn't scored a single goal. His overall play was immense... all those classy flicks and won virtually every 50-50 header.

This is a player who has scored nearly 150 goals in the last three seasons. "Poor" is evidently not an accurate way of describing his performance level across that period of time.

First half of Ronaldo's season was not tripe either. He went on a lean finishing run but was still putting in huge performances and big numbers in every other performance analysis metric

Bleh. Otamendi's kicked the ball at a player on the ground twice now in the same tournament. Not to mention the second time he managed to waste 2 minutes of precious injury time for his team. Special kind of stupid and it was infuriating to watch.

Kicking a ball at a player and literally kicking a player twice while they're on the ground are very different things.

To be fair, Otamendi acting the **** probably saved his team-mate from a red card.
