1.in the last 10 years of test cricket dale Steyn has missed only 5 test series all of which taking place between 2015-2017. Prior to 2015 Dale Steyn had never missed a test series for SA until 2015 he had played every test series for his country.

2. You mention the fact that Anderson averages 20 odd since 2014...that's good. Dale Steyn has averaged between 21 and 24 for almost his entire career. He has decimated batting lineups on every test playing continent on a consistent basis, be it dust bowls to flat roads to green mambas. Whereas Anderson has most of his wickets in England all the while requiring swinging conditions. Steyn has thrived in all conditions and all he ever required was a red cricket ball.(go and check the cricket stats and look at the havoc he has caused in every country INDIA SL WI AUS PAK ENG SA)

3.Don't ever place Anderson in the same league as Dale Steyn because Steyn is an ALL TIME GREAT. Although what you can do is place Anderson in the same league as Philander because just like Anderson he needs conditions to assist him most of the time. That being said Philander is more dangerous in helpful conditions.

4.Don't hype up a good bowler as a GREAT bowler. The greats perform in all conditions consistently.

5. Hazelwood will be better than Anderson.
If swinging conditions are such a huge help why don't all our bowlers dominate at home, and why does Dale Steyn only average a paltry 31.65 in England?

In 2008 Steyn managed eight wickets and Anderson 15, so maybe check these things before posting. Steyn has quite bit of of ground to make up get near no 1 atm.

It's pretty clear that Steyn has been the best all conditions fast bowler of the last decade. He's been a beast. I think any side would pick him first given a choice of all the fast bowlers in the world.

The only two sides that I think there is a reasonable chance he wouldn't play for is South Africa (in part due to quotas and in part because Steyn/Philander/Rabada is a bloody great attack without Anderson) and Australia. Whether he would play for Australia comes down to selection policy - would the selectors nudge him into retirement early because he's not as sharp as the fast 4 Aussie quicks? Would he be consistently effective on Australian decks?

We really can't say with any certainty. Aussie selectors have been known to drop players who are in form (Bevan, M Waugh from ODIs, Hodge, Hauritz from tests) to bring in unproven players.

The real question is would Nathan Lyon make Victoria's full strength side.
Need it's own thread

I personally can't see him getting in ahead of the likes of John Holland, Fawad Ahmed, Carl Sandri, Travis Dean's part-time leggies or that kid I saw playing under-16s for Keilor the other week he looked ok

Still can't believe Australia gave a guy citizenship because they so badly wanted to drop Lyon

You think that's bad, I hate to see what you say when it finally comes to light that the war in Afghanistan was manipulated decades before in anticipation of a need to convince Rashid Khan to move to Australia so we can drop Lyon.

Finally, a reason to start a war that I can get behind.

If fit he is the first bloke picked for any side anywhere.

On every tour of England that dale Steyn took part of he was the leading wicket taker of the series, both in 2008 and in 2012.pray tell how many wickets did Anderson manage on those tours? The fact is if Steyn is playing test cricket Anderson will not remain no.1 on the bowlers rankings. History will back that statement up.
tip - if you find yourself posting 'pray tell' - instead, spend a moment doing literally anything else

Steyn of the house Dale
If being the correct word sadly. Hope he comes back but at his age after so long out I have my doubts.

At least they have enough depth not to parade him around for years when he isn't good enough like Pakistan did with Waqar which was sad to see.

Along with Starc and Hazlewood he would have been the other pace bowler.

Pattinson and Cummins are too injury prone and would have been rested for bigger stakes.
