World's Best Commentator

JASON

Cricketer Of The Year
The Best All time Commentators I have listened and enjoyed were - Brian Johnstone and Richie Benaud.(and Peter Roebuck who is the best current commentator in my opinion[when you consider his beautiful voice])

People cherished for bringing cricket commentary to what it is today were (though I have heard only small segments of their voices ) - Alan Macgilvray(Australia) , John Arlott(England) , EW Swanton(England) .

Best Radio Commentary Team - Was the old BBC TMS Team of Brian Johnstone, Christopher Martin Jenkins(CMJ), Don Morsey, Henry Blofield, Trevor Bailey, with expert comments from Freddie Truman.

Best Commentary Segment Ever in the history of Cricket is Johnners Rolling in laughter unable to control himself while reading England scorecard V West Indies - with Aggers making faces. (including Bowler's Holding Batsman's Willey.)

Best TV Commentary Team - is undoubtedly the Channel 9 Australia Team of Ian Chappell, Tony Greig, Bill Lawry , Richie Benaud and others. They have taken TV Commentary to a new level.

Most One-Eyed Commentators in the world (those who boast their own Team no end and fail to appreciate the opposition's achievements) - Jimmy Maxwell(Australia),
Keith (Stacky) Stackpole (Australia), Brian Waddle(NZ), Jeremy Coney(NZ). Any others you guys want to add to this one eyed list ?
Some would even list Bill Lawry into this one-eyed commentary team. Any others?

Asif Iqbal was extremely one eyed. Gavaskar can be one eyed at times. Manjrekar is one-eyed in reverse...he finds only faults with India and always says the decision of the umpire will/should/should have gone against them
8-)

There used to be another Pakistani commentator (not a test cricketer) who was totally one=eyed..forget his name.

Commentary dream team?

Ok so lets say you need 8 commentators, to do 30 mins each in pairs. So all 8 will cover a session in a test match. Here's my dream team

David Lloyd
Jonathon Agnew

Richie Benaud
Geoff Boycott

Mark Nicholas
Michael Atherton

Michael Holding
Richie Benaud

.... though had I longer to think about it I think I might drop a couple of those for others.

Nobody's mentioned Navjot Sidhu? His commentary is pure genius, even outside the context of a cricket match, he's like a beat poet, his metaphor and proverbalisation are simultaneously absurd and insightful. Why doesn't he comment on every match?

He is a member of Parliament in India now and so he won't do much commentating. I really enjoyed his commentary though.

My other favs

Aamir Sohail- for entertainment value
Richie Benaud
Michael Slater
Sanjay Manjrekar
Geoffrey Boycott
David Lloyd

Wow Harsha Bhogle is quite a popular choice

Gladly...

Mark Nicholas...

Despite Harmison and Flintoff being good and fast improving international cricketers... Oh no, Nicholas has to make it sound like he wants them to have his babies...

Shane Warne commentates?Oh yeah Sanjay Manjrekar is good too.Micheal Holding doesn't know what he's talking about.Tony Cozier has much deeper knowledge o the game than him and he never played Test cricket at least I don't think so.

P.S I never knew Cozier was Bajan. He looked English and sounded sorta like that too.Weird????

I have to give credit to the man for not bowing to public pressure and not stepping down as captain of England when the story broke in 1994.
