West Indies will seek the advice of legendary former players Sir Viv Richards, Sir Clive Lloyd and Brian Lara following the Test side's crushing defeat by Australia.

They were bowled out for just 27 - the second-lowest score in Test history, and the worst since 1955 - as they lost the third Test in Jamaica to succumb to a series clean sweep.

In response, Cricket West Indies president Dr Kishore Shallow has called for an emergency meeting to review the series and the final match in particular.

Given the side's ongoing struggles with the bat, Richards, Lloyd and Lara - "our greatest batsmen ever" according to Dr Shallow - have been invited to attend the meeting.

They will join fellow West Indies batting greats Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Desmond Haynes, and former fast bowler Ian Bradshaw, who already serve on the cricket strategy and officiating committee.

"This engagement is not ceremonial," a statement from Dr Shallow read. "These are men who helped define our golden eras, and their perspectives will be invaluable as we shape the next phase of our cricket development.

"We intend for this gathering to result in tangible, actionable recommendations.

Holder would be an upgrade at 7. I don’t know enough about the best top 6 but it’s apparent that there are certain players that should be cast off permanently from this side.
Holder needs to be in that side. I think he's mentioned before that it's time for him to play franchise cricket after turning down opportunities when he was captain.

They probably have to go back to Brathwaite as there aren't any viable options to replace him as opener at the minute.

King at 3 or 4 and JDS at 5. The rest, pull names out of a hat.

1. Brathwaite
2. Campbell/Tage
3. King
4. Hodge/Athanaze/Hope/Mayers
5. JDS
6. Chase
7. Imlach/Holder

Kevlon, Wickham, Drakes, Jangoo, Jewell Andrew etc need A Tours or batting camps etc.

there isn't a single good FC batsman in the entire region. you can drop all of the top 7, nothing will change in the short term.
We just saw what happened to the one guy with a domestic average in the high 40s. It was like a rabbit in the headlights. I personally think he is worth persevering with but there's no denying he looked woeful.

So I don't know if we can give any credence to domestic runs. Better to look at technique and talent, look at them closely in the Academy, A team cricket or white ball internationals and choose from there.

I would continue what they started with the batting against spin clinic in India. I'd choose 3 or 4 of the best young batters and continue to give them A team exposure and access to specialist camps in the likes of UK and Australia. Then I would give them a chance in test cricket in 2 years time with that experience and hopefully fc runs behind them.

Personally the ones I would put through that programme are Jewel Andrew, Kevin Wickham, Kevlon Anderson and Akeem Auguste. But that is up for debate.

We just have to accept that our batting will suck for at least a few years and invest in the next bunch who have an outside chance of making it.

Squad announced?
West Indies have been forced to make three changes for the T20 International Series against Pakistan in the United States. Fast bowler Shamar Joseph replaced Alzarri Joseph in a move designed to manage work loads.

In the batting department Johnson Charles and Alick Athanaze have been called up to replace Brandon King and Shimron Hetmyer, who both picked up injuries on Monday night in the fifth and final T20I against Australia at Warner Park in St Kitts.

Shamar Joseph made headlines in January 2024 when he took a sensational seven-wicket haul (7‑68) in only his second Test, helping end a 27-year drought for the West Indies in Australia at the Gabba.

Recently he was the most outstanding bowler in the three Test Series against Australia in the West Indies with 21 wickets at 14.9 each. He is expected to share the new ball with left-arm pacer Jediah Blades, another young and exciting player in the West Indies set-up.

West Indies and Pakistan open their three-match series at the Central Broward Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida on Thursday at 8pm.

The second and third matches will be played at the same venue on Saturday and Sunday night. West Indies had a full training session on Wednesday morning in sizzling hot conditions which reached 37 degrees Celsius.

Ignoring off field considerations, I understand Shamar coming in to replace Alzarri. He's nearly as quick and can strike some boundaries if required, so it's worth a go given the lack of T20 ready 140kph plus options at our disposal.

Is it possible that our depth is so bad that Charkes or Fletcher are the only option when Lewis or King are injured? What happened to Mayers?

Most of the top order batsmen who ply the T20 curry goat leagues for us are all past their sell by dates.

And the youngsters that are up and coming don’t even have a proper technique to sustain at high level cricket.

Mayers is currently eating his food.

Wasn’t there a Bajan youth in the under-19 competition who was smacking it around recently? I think they call him a young Gayle
