West Indies will seek the advice of legendary former players Sir Viv Richards, Sir Clive Lloyd and Brian Lara following the Test side's crushing defeat by Australia.

They were bowled out for just 27 - the second-lowest score in Test history, and the worst since 1955 - as they lost the third Test in Jamaica to succumb to a series clean sweep.

In response, Cricket West Indies president Dr Kishore Shallow has called for an emergency meeting to review the series and the final match in particular.

Given the side's ongoing struggles with the bat, Richards, Lloyd and Lara - "our greatest batsmen ever" according to Dr Shallow - have been invited to attend the meeting.

They will join fellow West Indies batting greats Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Desmond Haynes, and former fast bowler Ian Bradshaw, who already serve on the cricket strategy and officiating committee.

"This engagement is not ceremonial," a statement from Dr Shallow read. "These are men who helped define our golden eras, and their perspectives will be invaluable as we shape the next phase of our cricket development.

"We intend for this gathering to result in tangible, actionable recommendations.

And funds to pay the players more.Youngsters are being tempted by franchise cricket and other sports.

Holder would be an upgrade at 7. I don’t know enough about the best top 6 but it’s apparent that there are certain players that should be cast off permanently from this side.

Holder needs to be in that side. I think he's mentioned before that it's time for him to play franchise cricket after turning down opportunities when he was captain.

They probably have to go back to Brathwaite as there aren't any viable options to replace him as opener at the minute.

there isn't a single good FC batsman in the entire region. you can drop all of the top 7, nothing will change in the short term.

We just saw what happened to the one guy with a domestic average in the high 40s. It was like a rabbit in the headlights. I personally think he is worth persevering with but there's no denying he looked woeful.

So I don't know if we can give any credence to domestic runs. Better to look at technique and talent, look at them closely in the Academy, A team cricket or white ball internationals and choose from there.

I would continue what they started with the batting against spin clinic in India. I'd choose 3 or 4 of the best young batters and continue to give them A team exposure and access to specialist camps in the likes of UK and Australia. Then I would give them a chance in test cricket in 2 years time with that experience and hopefully fc runs behind them.

Personally the ones I would put through that programme are Jewel Andrew, Kevin Wickham, Kevlon Anderson and Akeem Auguste. But that is up for debate.

We just have to accept that our batting will suck for at least a few years and invest in the next bunch who have an outside chance of making it.
