You have to look for some upside to it but he is someone who was played nearly 50 games and has repeatedly shown that he can’t produce more than the odd performance with bat and ball. This is a step backwards imho. Getting better at white ball might also just be because he barely played it before didn’t he?

The interview panel consisted of Head Coach Daren Sammy, Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe, and Chairman of the Cricket Strategy and Officiating Committee, Enoch Lewis.

The final recommendation was based on a weighted scoring system across six key areas: leadership, respect within the team, cricket knowledge, personal conduct, media and communication skills, and the results of the psychometric evaluation. The top-ranked candidates were recommended as captain and vice-captain and subsequently approved by the CWI Board.

We knew that Sammy was going to do some major overhaul...but as you've said, it is a step backwards.

It does seem they checked everything but actual cricketing ability and whether they actually deserve selection or not....

Having slept on it, the best rationale I can come up with is that they wanted some experience to lead the side for two years whilst the younger candidates hopefully earn their place in the side and perform (Josh, Tevin).

Other than that I've got nothing...
