Roaton Chase the new Test Captain with Jomel Warrican as his Vice-Captain.

Amazing what having the appropriate passport can do.

Bajan captain and vice captain....

Not only is Chase Bajan, he also plays for Sammy at the St Lucia Kings. Frenism at play.

Motie can kiss tests goodbye with Chase and Warrican in leadership positions.

The guy averages 26 with the bat and 48 with the ball yet now commands a certain place in the team. I was really looking forward to this test team reset, but this has certainly dampened that.

I was hoping that it was not going to be another Bajan. What in the ****?!

Warrican as vc is a head scratcher. Motie is obviously the better SLA and batsman than him.

If they wanted a Bajan captain then they should've offered it back to Jason Holder.

Shai Hope has also told the selectors he wants to focus on captaincy and the white ball formats, so that should probably draw a line in the sand in regards to his Test return.

What on earth will the test team look like now? I genuinely have no idea.

Chase batted at 5 for Barbados. Does that mean we have to suffer him batting in the top 6 again after averaging 19 in his last 40 tests?

Can't win really unless the w/k bats in the top 6 and he bats 7, otherwise he'll weaken the bowling.

If nothing else, the test squad announcement for the Australia series will be fun, I have no idea where we are heading.

John Campbell
Kraigg Brathwaite
Kevlon
Alick
Hodge
Thanos
JDS
Warrican
Roach
Shamar
Seales

Imlach can easily keep his spot ahead of JDS. KC replaces Kevlon.

Who else has played for the St Lucia King's? That seems to be a key criteria. Mathew Forde is likely a certain pick then. No way Alick and Hodge stay, IMHO. I'm expecting something far more left field than that, but let's see.

Depressing seeing the captaincy choices. JDS seemed like a more suitable choice - What is Athanaze's captaincy like for Windward Idlands? I'd have preferred they backed his talent and hoped captaincy brought the best out of him then Chase/Warrican.

I do think Warrican is underrated but with Chase's batting - in effect they have 2 spinners as captain and VC - how often will WI actually want to have 2 spin options?

I wonder if Alzarri Joseph will regret his suspension last year. Perhaps it wouldn't have made a difference but as a regular vice captain he'd surely be in the running for a captaincy role?

Sammy appears to have a very Trumpian policy

Sticking with the Bajan theme...it might be Aaron Jones

Roston Chase is the test captain. Bold choice. He seriously underperformed with the bat in his test career so far.

All the while he's improved his game in the white ball format. He's a formidable player with a good cricketing brain. One that Sammy saw on the outside when working with him in the CPL.

My 2 cents

The process began with a shortlist of candidates selected based on factors including Test experience, leadership qualities, and captaincy credentials. The shortlisted players included: John Campbell, Tevin Imlach, Joshua Da Silva, Justin Greaves, Roston Chase, and Jomel Warrican.

Each candidate went through a detailed assessment process that included psychometric testing to evaluate leadership style, behaviour, and overall suitability for the role, as well as structured interviews focused on tactical approach, communication skills, and team culture. The interview panel consisted of Head Coach Daren Sammy, Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe, and Chairman of the Cricket Strategy and Officiating Committee, Enoch Lewis.

The final recommendation was based on a weighted scoring system across six key areas: leadership, respect within the team, cricket knowledge, personal conduct, media and communication skills, and the results of the psychometric evaluation. The top-ranked candidates were recommended as captain and vice-captain and subsequently approved by the CWI Board.

So, they didn't pick these names out of a hat. I want to see the final scores.
