In all seriousness that is a great sign of the team doing the basics well. In general the fielding under Kraigg's captaincy has been very solid and apart from the injury ravaged Australia tour the bowling has been good (with work to do on bowling with the kooka). Just the minor issue of our batting being disgracefully bad......

Seems like the teams further up the ladder there take a greater percentage of wickets through their quicks, which makes sense - there are more drops when fielding closer in.

It does make India's percentage notably good though, and West Indies are so far ahead of even NZ/SA/England as to not really make it explainable by that factor alone.

Yep I think our slip cordon have done an excellent job over the last 2 years. I have not got stats for this but I feel Roach, Seales and Mayers get quite a lot of wickets caught behind by Da Silva as well which probably helps.

How many first choice players are missing from today's lineup?

Probably hard to know as some of the ODI regulars really deserve to be dropped.

So the only players in the qualifiers squad are Chase, Brooks, Charles, Carry, Cariah and Paul.

Charles, Cariah and Carty are very much squad players so I'd estimate 9 out of 11 were missing.

So given the depressing world cup qualifying campaign I'm trying to focus more on what a future ODI reset might look like. As I've said, I believe the batting is almost decent, with some tweaks, but the bowling needs to be ripped up and started again, with more specialists than all rounders.

If I were a selector I would be asking Jason Holder to retire from ODI cricket and getting rid of Johnson Charles, Shamarh Brooks, Rovman Powell and Roston Chase (though they won't do that as he is Thanos). I'd also drop Romario Shepherd and Keemo Paul until they demonstrate excellent domestic list A and A team form or perform outstandingly in Franchise tournaments.

For me the team should look roughly like this:

King
Mayers
Athanaze
Hope (c) (wk)
Pooran
Hetmeyer
All-rounder (spin)
Hosein
Joseph
140kph plus seamer
Leg spinner or seamer

I'd argue that Kevin Sinclair deserves that spinning all-rounder slot but they will probably keep Chase.

140kph plus seamer could be Ramon Simmons, McKenney Clarke or someone like Jair MacAlister. Admittedly we struggle for options here. If Oshane magically rediscovers form and fitness he could re-emerge.

Other seam options could be Dominic Drakes, Johan Layne, Akeem Jordan.

The leg spinning option could still be Cariah or one of the young leg spinners who have appeared on the scene like Micah Mckenzie or Vasant Singh.

It's time for bold decisions and giving youth a run. Haynes has demonstrated no ability to think outside the box, so he will probably have to go before this reset starts.

In regards to the franchise draft.

-Each franchise drafted 5 players to complete their 15-member squads for an interim 3 month period ahead of the 2023 Super50 Cup.
-The Super50 Tournament will take place from 21 October-11 November with venues once again being Antigua and Trinidad.
-Each regional franchise is now required to contract 2 players under the age of 25.
-Each franchise will get the opportunity to revise their squads ahead of the Super50, once the West Indies International retainer contracts have been confirmed.
-These changes are due to CWI deciding to align contracts of players and officials alongside CWI's financial year which runs from 1 October-30 September.

Sounds like Oshane Thomas is keen to use this regional year to try and force his way back onto the International scene.

“I’m happy to get this opportunity. I’m really looking forward to joining the Franchise and being part of the unit. I see it as a new start, a chance for me to work way back up to international cricket, where I performed before. I still have a dream of playing Test cricket for the West Indies and the red ball season will be crucial. I’m also keen to play the other formats, but first I have to do it for Leeward Islands Hurricanes and then make that step back up to international cricket.”
Hopefully he can get rid of some of that timber and back to bowling some hostile bowling with a bit more maturity.

So after today I've changed my mind r.r future ODI set up. I'm not sure King and Mayer's can justify their places either. So I'm going.

Perfect that should be the core and they could try some yougster. WI should organize some matches against the associates during oct-nov. They have got a huge window there. If they don't then they will be nowhere there next three odi series is against India at home, eng at home and WI in aus after a decade

Some Bold decision should be taken and they should try to make a young squad focusing on 2027 World cup because they will surely not play the Champions trophy.
