Will Mendis be the quickest to 50 wicktes?

They punked out. They put financial gain over morals and ethics. It takes a strong leader to sacrifice power to do the right thing.
No leader (ie, I$C$C executive) has any power to sacrifice though. No executive could have removed Zimbabwe by doing so. The only way it could have happened was if votes came the right way - and they were never going to do so, because most people are more bothered about keeping their power than about either doing what is right morally or what is best for the game of Test cricket.

It is possible, but given Sri Lanka's seemingly god-given ability to hammer Bangladesh into the ground every time that they meet them (a factor, possibly, delaying Bangladesh's progression to Test-class), it remains to be seen whether he'll get a bowl for long enough to take the required amount of wickets (27 more, I believe).
I'd agree with that. And the tests could be over before the pitches even start to turn. I reckon Mendis would have more chance of taking 50 wickets quickly if they played England or Pakistan next.
