Viv, Jayasuriya and Kapil would be the go to players.
Viv ~ ABD who can bowl
Jayasuriya ~ Gayle who can bowl better
Kapil ~ A better version Russell

Two other cricketers who would have done well in my opinion are Lance Klusener & Ian Botham.
Destructive batsmen.
Good bowlers(In Botham’s case very good)
Good fielders.

I want to see Herbert Sutciffe and Geoffrey Boycott open in a T20 game, followed by Sunil Gavaskar.

so Alec Bedser would be a more successful quick than Frank Tyson in LO?
Imo they will be pretty close on effectiveness. And that's given Tyson had very Good control. Without much control, high pacers are free runs more often than not.

Wait why is Kapil Dev winning this poll? Is there something about IPL that I don't understand?

If you are getting a player of Viv Richards’ calibre, I do not think one should worry about an overseas slot - Imagine a slightly better ABD who can bowl as well.
I don't think he's a "better" Abd firstly. Secondly the one you're comparing him to is Kapil and not any average Indian cricketer. He's literally the perfect profile to be successful in this IPL era

I think Viv is a better ABD

I agree.

Destructive lower order batsman. Good bowler. Great fielder. But is this enough to displace The King?
He was better than Abd in 50/60 overs cricket. There's no guarantee he'd be better in the IPL specifically than ABD who was imo clearly the best IPL batter ever.
Yes

Viv, Jayasuriya, Kapil and Klusener will no doubt fetch highest prices. Other one who is forgotten is Shahid Afridi. He is deadly in subcontinental conditions. Good bowler and very good fieldsman. Don't think Botham is at that level. He averages 23 @ 79 with the bat and 29 with the ball in ODIs for 116 matches. Afridi averaged 24 with massively higher strike rate of 115, 34 with the ball nearly 400 frikking matches.

Aravinda, Azhar, Jones, Crowe would be dead set openers in T20s. They are pretty aggressive, and can play long innings too. They will be anchormen in T20s.

Peak Botham was a destructive batsman in test cricket

Even in ODIs he had useful knocks at high strike rate

Two things to note here
1. He wasn’t as destructive as Kapil in ODIs
2. He dipped like in test cricket. Around 1983, he was averaging 23 with SR of 85 which was great for that time.

23 at 85 SR isn't bad for that Era, but it wasn't Great for it either.
