I think its a pretty close call between Vettori and Geogre (Hogg), i think Hogg is more of an attacking spin bowler and on the other hand Vettori plays on a batsman's patience to get his wickets.

I think Hogg could have been a decent Test match bowler too but he really didn't had a chance to break into the Test-team with Warney and McGilla being there.

Vettori is easily the best left arm spinner in Test cricket.

Quite frankly Brad Hogg isn't good enough as a FC cricketer to warrant a spot in Australia's Test team. Despite being a fantastic ODI spinner, his FC stats show quite clearly that he doesn't perform very well in the longer form of the game. An average of over 40 with the ball from almost 100 FC matches doesn't do his talent justice, but his talent is best served in the limited overs form of the game.

yep, he is the one. I really have high hopes for him, IF they let him play more often.

Him and Kaneria can form a pretty good spin partnership in tests, methinks.
For sure, he looks a pretty capable bowler although Pakistan are probably well served for spinners in the Test arena with Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez and Shahid Afridi all being slow bowling options when they are playing. However, I would like to see more of Rehman in ODI's because he looks very talented and economical as well.

I think on a spinning track, I would rather have two specialist spinners than 2 or 3 part timers supporting my main spinner. Ideally on a turner, Asif, Gul, Razzaq and Kaneria and this guy and perhaps Malik or Hafeez should be the bowling line up for them. It could pose serious trouble to the batting side if they bowl anywhere near their potentials.

That's on a spinning track though mate. On a normal track then I would go in with three seamers, Kaneria and the couple of part time allrounders that Pakistan seem to posess. On a spinning track though, I think Rehman would have to be ahead of the third seamer (Razzaq or Iftikhar). Ideally, my normal Pakistan bowling lineup would look like this.

Asif
Gul
Razzaq
Kaneria
Malik/Afridi/Hafeez

Whilst of course england is a tropical paradise.
Comparatively, yes.

Every English pitch used for test matches is either more or way more conducive to spin than any NZ offer thesedays.

Especially by late summer...when Panesar got his good results vs Pakistan.

I'd say Vettori is underrated in Tests. Doesn't have the best averages but he bowls plenty of overs and gets big wicket hauls playing a lot against Sri Lanka recently.
Really only gets big wickets because he bowls so many overs, and eventually he has to take wickets. Obviously he's reasonably economical, and thus IMO justifies his inclusion in the side, but he's not a particularly threatening Test bowler IMO.

Wasn't Hogg a really late improver as a bowler though? How many of those FC matches were played when he was rubbish? I'd be interested to see his FC record over the last couple of years.

Hmm, anyone doing an IP check on this guy, he sounds tiresomely familiar:blink:

Pf, there's really no need.

A man who continuously trolls the same points, over and over, calling anyone else "unimaginative", is just beyond ridiculing really.

Also declaring yourself omnipotent on boards, that is a totally new concept, of course:laugh:

I just enjoy arguing with him that's all, better arguing with him than with someone who I know will beat me :p

What like this from 2004?

12 games, 18 wickets @ 53.11?
