Frankly, in 2011 we had just reached the pinnacle of the sport in winning the World Cup for a second time, something that England have never managed to do despite reaching 3 finals. The work and training and preparation that went into winning that world cup all culminated in an amazing performance in the final v Sri Lanka. Here's a thought, did India have a post-ortem after their double whitewashes or no?
When you have been number 1 in the world for 2 years won a World Cup achieved everything there is to achieve in the sport, and add that that when your captain has gone on to captain his team to IPL victory just a few weeks later, it is very hard to stay motivated for any other cricket on the horizon hence we had a very flat performance in England.
For that reason we cannot really call this a revenge series as we brought that performance on ourselves. There is no doubt that the BCCI would have given our players a talking to and would have told them that we have to maintain the standards we have set for ourselves as being a world number 1 team and the world champions.
This rang true in the ODI series when England came over last winter and we gave them a drubbing 5-0 when many English pundits like David Lloyd were predicting the same result to England given that in theory they had the momentum between the two sides but we pretty much showed there that when motivated there is not much anyone can do about it to be quite honest.
Given what happened last year in England frankly the whole team and the country are behind India to give England an absolute whipping in this series.
