Hutton vs V. Richards
Two batsmen with incredible careers. I think can get overlooked a bit, Viv for late career drop off, Hutton due to the whole Bradman overlapping his career. Who was a greater batsman?

I think Hutton and Viv have been more like Root and Kohli the last two years

The only reason Viv was ever ahead was because no one was really batting for Hutton like multiple did for Viv

Viv averaged 50 batting at no.3 in a pace friendly era while striking at 70. Don't think anyone is cricket aside from him could achieve that.

Strike rate is his biggest selling point, I agree.

It's but one.
He's very arguably, the greatest batsman against fast bowling in the history of the game.
He's had one of the top 3 peaks, if not the greatest in the games history.
His strike rate, ability to turn a game in a session and dominance over the ATG bowlers is his era just adds to it.

I think if Bradman increased his SR to 70 he’d still manage it.

Viv dominating ATG pace attacks is the biggest myth about him. The only truly ATG level attack of his era was the one he didn't have to face. Having a good record against Lillee or Hadlee is fine but nothing exceptional when it's just individual ATG pacers and the attack around them is merely decent. The all round quality of the post war Australian attacks Hutton dominated was just better than anything viv faced.

Viv dominated the individual ATG pacers and allround great (maybe not ATG) attacks like Eng 76 and 81, Aus 79 and Pak 80.
And it was actual domination. Not slowpoke run scoring like Hutton.
