Watling to take over as Wellington white ball coach. Edgar back to coach the Plunket Shield side with Watling assisting. They have picked up a specialist batting coach Toby Radford from the UK who has been working in Bangladesh.

Cricket Wellington must have some decent cash resources behind them, they have still to announce a bowling coach too...

I suspect something must have happened behind the scenes for Iain O'Brien to quit as he was quoted as saying " “This is my dream job and one I have waited a long time to come up,” and then quit about 4 months later...although he did attribute it to Covid, so who knows...

Philips in the runs too.

And our batting cover is...Rutherford. Do you think that was tactical to make sure philips and ravindra got county time?

That's some serious batting from the lad. Ridiculously good balance at the crease. So glad they didn't end up calling him as a replacement for CDG and called in Rutherford. At least Rachin got to play some cricket. Last thing you want is 22 year olds sitting and mixing drinks in the dressing room. In any case our management were screwing him over and if stayed for another series or two with them he would have forgotten how to bat as well just like he ended up losing his bowling form completely. Probably management trying to tweak his action stuffed him up. After this knock he will probably be earning a county contract more than the contract NZC would offer for our top 15 players at least. Also he will get to play a lot of red ball cricket which is becoming a bit rare in NZ domestic set up. Longer he stays out of the Black Caps team better and better he will become I feel. Then will come a time he will be his own man and will not have to cut corners to make the side.

Also great to see Phillips smashing a hundred as well, another young cricketer that was wronged by this management. Played him in one test in Aussie, scored reasonable runs and then dumped.

What is the standard of the attacks that they versed? I see Ravindra was playing in div 2 while Philips was in div 1

The attack vs Ravindra is probably slightly lower than NZ domestic. The attack vs Philips best bowler is Duffy so also slightly lower than NZ domestic.

Pretty mediocre. LT has been saying how frequently Kent have conceded more than 400 this season and it was hard to find a Worcestershire bowler averaging better than ~30. Still, you’ve still gotta score the runs, even if they’re there for you.

I think any runs overseas got to be good runs particularly not knowing the opponents, different grounds, conditions, different balls all play a part. Good number of overseas professionals turn up for county but don't necessarily go all that well.

Hadn't watched the highlight before but just did. The bowling wasn't all that bad by the looks of it, just good shots. We get more trundlers in our domestic cricket when black caps aren't playing. The only difference is you get different natured pitches in UK and value for runs compared to here particularly if you are playing most of your cricket at Hagley and Basin. If you are playing most of your games at Eden Park or Napier or Pukekura or Uni at Otago generally should be all right with the bat with super small grounds.

Looking up the bowlers list they have likely played thrice as much first class games than say Phillips or Ravindra. All averaging under 30 with the ball.

This is from Keegan Petersen, a gun player from South Africa playing for Durham. I guess getting Ravindra was an upgrade.

The Neesham situation is pretty annoying. I could at least understand why Munro was let go of completely, but here’s a guy who did his bit in our last 2 white ball tournaments. The white ball squads are not exactly overflowing with experienced big hitting batsmen now that Taylor has retired snd Guptill a shadow of his best.

In some good news Rachin is back bowling and seeing the 9 overs he bowled all of the balls were in great areas. All is not lost at the spin bowling front I guess. I thought his bowling was done and dusted.
