Flower in an all time list is BS. He avged 22 in Eng, 26 in SA, 23 in Sri Lanka, 38 in Pakistan and he doesn't have any hundreds in 5 tests played in NZ. You want such a guy to be ahead of Gilchrist who has tons everywhere? seriously? Hayden ? No ... He was predominantly an Australian Bully with 21 hundreds at home out of his 30 ... Thats 70% ... Same with Sehwag who has like 60% at home ....!
Lets analysis Gilly's innings a bit if you wanna his Impact ...... Sehwag can only DREAM to have such impact !
01> When Australia were at 126/4 Gilchrist came out to bat in the 4th innings whicl chasing a big Total …. When he left they were at 369 and had won the match …. Not out !

By the way Flower averaged 51.8 at home and 51.2 away. When given the luxury of batting 7, he averaged 70. In his second innings, home and away, he averaged 56. Such character. Such a fighter. Averaged 114 in India - a few more than GIlly I bet. Averaged 84 in wins, 66 in draws, and 46 in losses. No Ponting, no S Waugh, no Hayden. Just Flower.

I wouldn't compare the 2 and do lot of in-depth analysis on their match by match performance but then I give the Warne the nod since I like his aggression a lot. Moreover he has been great in the 90s as well as in the 00s decade while Murali wasn't very good in the 90s. That having said Murali bowled a lot at home and Warne picked lot of wickets outside and if we minus Bangladesh then Warne is ahead in Quality wickets. Add Warne's wickets lost to his total during the doping ban which he clearly got when he was bowling at his peak, unfriendly wickets which he bowled in his career he get an edge in my view. Murali yes has HUGE numbers but then had the conditions in his favour as well.
Regarding Andy at 7 did he change the course of any matches in some special way? I don't think so. He was gr8 in Indian conditions but thats just it. Gilly has been such a huge matchwinner and its no surprise that before 99n Aus were a good side but not invincible.... Since Gilly arrived in 99 Aus became invincible. Sure Hayden-Langer partnership played a big role in that too but then Gilchrist has been the difference between draws and wins and often bailed out Aus from tough situations.

That is amazing for many reasons.
I do find it kinda funny how Warne couldn't match Murali in the "helpful" Sri Lankan conditions, let alone West Indies; or in England and New Zealand. Those latter infamous spinning wickets. Or even against the Indians (home and away).
Should Murali have been no balled in Australia?

Well they did bowl head to head in SL in 2003/04 and Warne did picked 26 wickets @ 20.03
while Murali picked 28 @ a higher bowling average of 23 ... That was when Warne was fully fit and bowling at his best and so was Murali unlike the 99 year when Warne wasn't bowling that good and had a bad year.... ! McGrath > Hadlee for me .... Lillee, Marshall they are both wonderful bowlers of their time. I would rather not compare the 2.... Marshall has better overall records but then Lillee (played less in Asia-wi) is no less and was the original master....!

Warne couldn't match the Indians, True ! However the question is could Murali match the Indians? He had equally horrible figures against the best players of spin and Sehwag massacred Murali like Sachin massacred Warne. I see no reason why Murali has any edge over Warne when it came to bowling @ Indians.

Well, If I had to pick a bowling unit to bowl in Aus/Eng/SA/NZ conditions then my first pick will be Dennis Lillee before anyone. Sir Richard was a wonderful bowler and he excelled in a weak team which is true and something I respect a lot but then Lillee had raw speed and intimidating power which Hadlee/McGrath didn't really have. No one had in that capacity!

No fault of Murali in that. The guy is born with some weird arm and not deliberately chucking so he shouldn't have been no balled. An enquiry should have been done with the match referee after the match. Daryl Hair is a no good fella, the whole world knows that now, so no worries.

I agree, Warne was the better bowler in the 90's, but it isn't as big of a gap as you make it out to be. Tbh, their starts aren't that dissimilar for that decade, apart from Warne playing more tests. Both actually played an equal number of matches home and away, and both took more wickets and had better averages at home. Warne averaged over 50 against India, and over 30 against the Windies and Zimbabwe. Murali averaged over 40 against Australia and India, and over 30 against Pakistan. The whole prepared pitches thing is an argument pulled out of everyone's ass. Explain why other spinners weren't successful if the pitches were prepared like that.
Oh and neither played once against Bangladesh in the 90's.

Warne's bowling avg outside Aus is 24.xy and strike rate is 54.7 or so .... Murali's bowling avg outside SL is 27.79 and Strike Rate is 61.8 ..... Now Warne's bowling avg in SL is 20.45 (Murali's home avg is 19.56) and strike rate is 39.6 (Murali's home strike rate is 50.8) ..... Warne suffered more than half his career with 60 strike rate in Aus on those unfriendly tracks while Murali feasted more than half his career on tracks where he could have 19-20 bowling avg ....Yet u say tracks didn't favour Murali ?
