Top 10 of every Sport

Agassi felt a bit high to me. Never seemed that highly rated during his career. Not an expert on a few of those sports but 99% sure I’ve seen an almost exact copy of that basketball list multiple times lol.

Even AI overrates Kobe.
Yeah, I'm not qualified to offer any opinion on Basketball or Baseball. Football is interesting because it seems totally obsessed with essentially one style of player (and Ballon D'Or kind of matches it). But if you were putting together a best ever team, that lot would be no good. Beckenbauer is the only vaguely defensive player there. I'd argue that someone like Maldini should be in.

Tennis is seemingly based around how many Slams players won or weeks spent at Number 1. But I think you could easily argue that Murray is a Top 10 player of all time, it's just he had the misfortune to turn up when the Top 3 did.

I’d be shocked if someone argued that personally. Think you have to be dominant/at the top of your own era to be considered that high. Considering everything I reckon Rosewall’s probably a good shout instead of Agassi to round that out.

idk anything about AFL except that the consensus is that Leigh Matthews is a clear #1. So good list!

Well I'd argue it. If Murray played in the late 90's to early noughties he'd have picked up double digit Slams.

Agonizingly Awkward

Boxing:
  1. Muhammad Ali
  2. Joe Louis
  3. Sugar Ray Robinson
  4. Rocky Marciano
  5. Floyd Mayweather Jr
  6. Manny Pacquiao
  7. Sugar Ray Leonard
  8. Mike Tyson (almost don't want to put him after his last match with that idiot)
  9. Roberto Duran
  10. Julio Cesar Chavez
  11. Carlos Monzon/Joe Frazier (want to put both really bad)
That's the worst list i have ever seen.

Confirming my boxing knowledge, I’ve only heard of 3 of these names before. Though I might be thinking of the wrong bloke for one of them.

And I could argue if Rosewall played in the modern day he’d have picked up 30 slams
And that's fair enough, the best 10 players don't have to be the most decorated. Murray had a far more all round game than McEnroe whose serve and volley strategy would've been gradually pulled apart by decent returners.

I mean I think we all accept that athleticism, training and sports science have vastly improved over the years so current athletes might be “better” than past ones. But yeah that doesn’t make them “greater”. Comparing across eras needs to be done with respect to those things otherwise modern athletes will always win. I mean this philosophy is inherent to an entire subforum here lol.

I’m sure, following on with the boxing theme, someone today could probably convincingly beat Sugar Ray with all their modern advantages.

I get that, but tennis seems to be out on its own in that it's universally accepted that the Big 3 from the modern era literally are the Big 3 of all time. I don't think it's therefore ridiculous to suggest that a guy who held his own against them, won a lot of titles (including 2 Olympic Golds), should be considered a Top 10 player.

Eh. I’ve not personally seen a list that does and I wouldn’t, but I’m sure there are some out there and I guess calling it “ridiculous” was out of proportion.

Get what you’re saying but boxing probably isn’t the best example

Firstly, it’s dodgy af & lots of guys were undoubtedly on the gear back in the day

Secondly, it’s probably more of a niche sport now so the potential talent pool isn’t as deep

Guys like Sugar, Hagler and Hearns would smoke today’s fighters IMO

I guess. Like I said I don’t know/care much about boxing at all.

My favourite part of boxing:
