Day Three

The morning session could not have gone better for Australia. What started as a belligerent counter-attack turned into a punishing sixth wicket stand as Loblaw and Haddin added 135 in the session. Haddin got to fifty first, the wicketkeeper getting there from 58 balls, and Loblaw followed soon after, having faced 77 deliveries. By the lunch break the lead had advanced to a formidable 314.

The pair showed no signs of stopping in the afternoon. Both batsmen brought up outstanding centuries as they launched Australia to the highest score of the match. By the time the new ball was taken, quarter of an hour before tea, the score had passed 350, and the visitors led by 436. Haddin and Loblaw responded to the taking of the new cherry by smashing a further 20 runs by tea.

Haddin celebrated the 300 partnership by clouting two fours off Myheart's over, raising his 150 in the process, and Loblaw joined him on reaching the milestone once the score had passed 400. The mammoth, 350-run stand was eventually broken by Wood, who hit Haddin's leg stump to dismiss him for an outstanding 167. Wood continued to be a thorn in the visitors' side, picking up Wayne for 17 and Suifdadny for 8, but it was of little consequence as the lead crossed 550. When Coco departed for a brash 13, most of the crowd's attention had come to the chance of a double-ton for Loblaw, which he would have the chance to make on the fourth morning after Player blocked out the final over.

Day Four

Having supported Loblaw for 35 balls, Player somehow found a rush of blood twenty minutes into the morning session. Clonking Myheart for six one ball, he holed out the delivery after, leaving Loblaw stranded on 195*. Nonetheless it was hardly a situation of complaint for the visitors, who would defend a target of exactly 600.

The chase did not start well. After Haddin gave Fertang a reprieve on 0 by dropping a straightforward chance, Pickup was deceived by a Suifdadny in-swinger and watched the ball hit off stump. Moody then saw fit to run himself out for 1, reducing England to two wickets down for single figures for the second time in the match.

Robertson was next to go, Suifdadny getting his second wicket with an lbw, before Fertang departed in the same manner against Coco for 6. Another dropped catch from Haddin - no doubt feeling complacent with the score reading 14/4 - allowed Wood and Ardley to reach lunch, but the game was essentially over.

Ardley lasted three balls into the afternoon before being dismissed caught and bowled by Player, and Wood soon gave another return catch to Suifdadny, departing for a relatively colossal 27. Deen became Suifdadny's fourth victim when he edged to slip, and Player took his tally to three by having Smithington-Smythe and Myheart caught out in the same over.

Suifdadny finished things by trapping Furball lbw, claiming figures of 5-34, and ending England's run chase on 86 all out. It had been a sensational turnaround for the Australians, who had lost the urn but taken all the credit for a thrashing in the last match.

Australia won by 513 runs

Man of the Match: Bobby Loblaw
