I really think that its insulting that Ben Foster is on standby as a keeper. Whilst he may turn out to be a good keeper, for the World Cup, someone with so little experience, and none at all at the top level, shouldnt be considered (that goes for theo too!).

I mean, Nigel Martyn made be 106, but he's still a Premiership goalkeeper who over 90 minutes has the quality to do well. Granted for a whole season you'd want someone better, but as a 3rd choice in a month long tournament, i'd easily pick him over Foster and indeed Carson. For qualifying i can understand giving the new kid a feel as a back up, but this is the biggest tournament on earth, and you cant mess about with inexpierence and 'blooding players' when you have better options available.
In total agreement. My first reaction when I heard the name was who TF is he?!

well up to yesterday i wasn't convinced about Crouch & thus was in full belief that England should go into the WC with a 4-5-1 formation in wazza's absense. But Crouch did himself no harm yesterday & i'd agree to him starting.

Looking a Sven's selections to date i'd say he has got everything just about perfect except for Jenas who is simply a waste someone like Reo-coker or Nolan would have been much better & the reserve 3rd keeper even though he wont play as was mentioned already here Ben foster should have really gone ahead of Carson

What was being said here was that Foster should never have been anywhere near contention, not that he should go ahead of Carson.

Just heard from a very excited 5 live reporter that Rooney has been seen running, turning and kicking.
Almost like your typical Leeds United player outside the Majestyk Night Club on a Saturday night.

He'd turn down the call, as he did for Euro 2004. At his age he sees no point in going and being 3rd choice.

I only know him because he moved from Racing Club Warwick to Stoke.

Thankfully they had a sell on clause on him!

Why should he be ahead of Carson exactly?

Must be something to do with the club he's contracted to?...

If it wasn't for the location, it almost sounds like a club from Spain or France

Since we have Racing Santander and Paris' other team - Racing Club de Paris.

Now i know there both digs at Aussie, so i have to point out in both of your defences that even i'm a Utd fan and i'm arguing he shouldnt be anywhere near the squad!!!!

Luke Steele on the other hand ;)

Did he even play any first team football last season?

I suppose if 'sick note' Chris Kirkland didn't get injured then then neither Green/Carson or who ever wouldn't have got anywhere near the squad. Or you could bring in Richard Wright of Everton, I suppose that he actually has played some first team football this season in the Premiership would count for him. Or kidnapp Gordon Banks and/or Peter Shilton and clone either one, or combine their genes together and create a super goal keeper :-O

Either the latter or I agree the situation is rather dire.

The same Scott carson who has been playing at Sheffield Wednesday this season just passed?

Sven's hands are pretty tied with the Keeper situation, a look round the clubs tells you that. Martyn is basically retired from international football and didn't play the latter half of the season so he wouldn't have been a viable option. Richard Wright, though, did play a fair bit, so you do have to wonder why Sven would opt for Keepers who have been playing Championship football over him, though his injury record is very dodgy, just like Kirkland.

Foster is an exceptional Keeper, and helped get Watford promoted, and Carson helped keep Wednesday up, in the absence of Green, there weren't many options for him.

On a related note, am I imagining Shaka Hislop once playing for England B ? He could have gone as third choice :)

A quick check tells me Shaka played for England Under 21, no mention of England B, but I'm pretty sure he did, then went on to play for Trinidad. Shame LOL!

I personally would choose Green over Kirkland anyway, I can't believe Green hasn't been snapped up by a Premiership club, Kirkland is overrated when he's fit anyway.

I was joking - he's less experienced than Carson, but not by that much. We're still taking a bit of a gamble.

Yeah, I tend to be excessively sarcastic anytime before noon I do apologise

In all reality, third choice very rarely plays, but if he does, Carson's competent enough, he's looked useful for the scousers when they've outed him. DOn't worry :)
