Fair enough. I was actually thinking of him in more of an Afridi mold with the unpredictability and all. I don't expect him to score loads of runs at Test level anytime in the near future. I just think that he might possibly become a good pinch hitter who could score quick runs for the one day team. Maybe more of a useful Bangladeshi batsman rather than a great one. I was just wondering if anyone thought he had more potential than I'm giving him credit for.

You could at least provide a reason. That's a bit dismissive to HariDasi's 1st post. Welcome to the forum HariDesi . (Don't mind Perm, he knows not what he does).

Remind us not to include you in any welcoming parties Perm
Thanks a lot for the welcome. I don't mind Perm's reply, he seems to have strong feelings about the subject and probably some good reasons for them.

Is he?

Is there?
Ashraful's played a few more mature innings of late than usual. Wouldn't quite say he's 'got it together' though.

Aftab is among the top 3 six-hitters in one-day cricket in the last 12 months. Quite clearly a superb stroke-player. However, him ever realising his 'potential' hinges on his sorting his mental game out and I think it's optimistic to assume he ever will.

Yep. Was gonna say "India usually produce a spinner of some note most of the time" (in fact, that's something I've been meaning to ask SJS or Anil about for ages... was there much in between the end of the famous quartet in the late '70s and the emergence of Kumble in 1990?) too, and Chawla looks a pretty good bet for the next one after Kumble.
They did have Sivaramakrishnan and Hirwani in the 80's both of whom faded away after promising starts. The former , in particular, I think was a case of massive potential having gone to waste.

THey had a whole bunch of other guys who twirled the ball in that period like Arshad Ayub, Maninder Singh, Ravi Shastri....none of whom set the world on fire.

Agreed on Tait, I think he'll have some very good days playing for Australia coz he's a bowler who when he gets it all right then batsman are powerless to resist. But he'll also have some useless days and I estimate his final test analysis will look something similar to Brett Lee's.

Would also be suprised if injuries dont hurt him alot at some stage of his carear.

Yeah I concur. I think Tait will end up being a lot like Brett Lee....ie enjoys more success at ODI level than at tests.

Tbh, I see more potential in HilfenHaus than I do in Tait.

Haha, George, that reply was more predictable than the sun rising. Still, I hoped you'd got over the I-hate-everything-Bangladesh by now.

I daresay I could permit you that. ;)

(It was more the laughing in every post I was on about, and since making that post I've wondered if I wasn't exaggerating it a bit anyway, ITBT)

Just didn't want sohummishra getting caught up in a tongue-in-cheek argument that he thought was genuine.

TBH I haven't got a problem with your attitude now, it's just part of the forums.

It wasn't totally tongue-in-cheek, I can't really see either Ashraful or Aftab Ahmed amounting to much (and I seem to remember you saying broadly the same thing not so long ago).

Doesn't mean I hate Bangladesh cricket, something you've insinuated more than once.

One of those names mentioned earlier in the thread was Kumar Sangakkara and I admit I had forgotten completely about him because he seems so established in Sri Lanka's lineup it is as though he has been there forever. Definately a class batsman and wicket keeper, although I'd like to see him keeping wicket more often in Test match cricket.
