So how come his average drops to about 52 from 57 when you remove them then?
This thread is entitled "Test XI of the year 2005". When you remove his Zimbabwe matches for the year 2005, his average in fact goes up, so its not really an arguement that can be used to discount his position in the Test XI of 2005, is it?

I know that. Man someone's defensive today!

I was just laughing that Ponting had registered a wicket, nothing related whatsoever to anything you said or any kind of point you were making. :)

I think he was referring to my comment - not yours.

Here are the stats for the best performers in tests - circa 2005. Take your pick.
Where did you get these stats from?

They don't correspond with the ones at cricinfo. Inzamam, for example, scored 1000 runs at an average of 83.33.

Seamers in 2005...

Flintoff 68 @ 24.41
Hoggard 58 @ 26.10
McGrath 58 @ 21.56
Lee 46 @ 31.97
Harmison 46 @ 34.86
Ntini 44 @ 24.56
Pathan 34 @ 24.38
Vaas 32 @ 19.62
Jones 31 @ 22.29
Nel 30 @ 19.70
Typical NZ ignorance.

Franklin 28 wickets at 30. Ahead of Harmisson and Lee. There. :D

SJS's stats don't account for the one-off (official) test between OZ and World XI. Inzy scored 0 and 1 in that test - I think, which is why his average comes down so significantly if we include it in his yearly record.

Inzemam had his best year ever averaging almost 100.
I'm assuming that is excluding the stupid super test. With the super test he made 1000 runs at the still awesome average of 83.something.

Yes I took the figures from the Pakistani players list for 2005 and it didnt have other matches.

Either you're missing a player or you are gonna play with 10 and are planning on making Smith bowl 10 overs in the ODi's? 8-)

I personally think that Vaughan, like a lot of people, under-rate Ricky's bowling. Unfortunately, he paid the price because although that spell wasn't hugely threatening, the ball which got Vaughan was of excellent line and hit the seam. Had Ricky not been such a good batsman, I'm certain he'd bowl a few more overs than he does. He actually used to be a fair bit quicker too.
