I too don't know the meaning, but it comes from Cevno, a long time poster here who for some reason has stopped posting now.

Read his table.

Batting average is going up much higher than the bowling average which is more or less constant.

So unless you want to call Starfighter a troll...
Tbh, I missed most the thread after your statement that runouts had increased, including the multiple postings of the table. Should really read the thread properly before commenting, but it was mathematically impossible you were correct after that statement and I've developed a habit of skipping reading conversations between you and tjb.

No, run outs and no balls could have dropped also in a greater proportion to run outs (increasing if they had) for team batting average. So it was never mathemitcally impossible, with all respect.

Like I said to Daemon and Starfighter, I am surprised with how high the run outs are at initially. I don't know everything nor do I claim too. Especially run outs before 1990's. The increase in 1990's with third umpire is expected, but teams have adjusted since then.

But yeah, if you're going to comment to me directly, probably best you read it all first. I'd appreciate that.

Cevnoing is accusing people of double standards when they are treating two different things as being different, if I understand correctly

So like, if person A said what a batsman averaged in the 1970s in Australia is not relevant to discussing Sachin's career performance in Australia, and then person B accused them of double standards/cherry picking/tried to reject this argument in some way - person B is Cevnoing

In this case, Burgey is saying that Mr Miyagi is Cevnoing with regards to...something. Frankly I gave up on the debate a few pages back. I'm just here to like posts that call out Mr Miyagi for being annoying. What is Mr Miyagi cevnoing about?

Cevnoing is also, when faced with an uncomfortable truth about something or someone you believe in or are fond of, diverting the conversation to minimize the impact of your disappointment, preferably by making the same or a harsher critique about someone or something else. This is usually done in the hope of distracting from the gaping holes in your own argument and moving the conversation to a different tangent, without having to admit you are wrong.

Cevno used to partake of it all the time. There would be a discussion, for example, about who was the best player of pure pace bowling, and the conversation would go something like this:

Cevno: Sachin [it was always Sachin] and Lara.

Everyone else: actually, I think Viv or Ponting were better players of pure pace than Tendulkar and Lara, principally because of the way they played the short ball and really liked the way the ball came onto the bat.

Cevno: YEAH, WELL PONTING WAS **** IN INDIA AGAISNT SPIN WASN'T HE?

I recall he was called out on it a fair bit several years ago now, and he stopped doing it. But I haven't seen him around here on CW much lately at all. Hope he's ok.

No balls cannot account for a significant change in batting average. The thread started with the description of the change as 'really', which excludes small movements.

An increase of runouts, which is what you said, cannot account for the movement in batting average up. Only the exact opposite of what you stated can do this.

Apologies for not reading the thread properly.

Ponting didn't love the pace when Kemar Roach brought it to him at the WACA in 2009. Sure he was an old **** by then but still. Whatever happened to Kemar Roach anyway? Is he still playing? He probably is I just don't ever watch WI games and unless he plays Big Bash he doesn't exist to me. Can't wait for the Big Bash this year. What were we talking about?

Oh no, I admit I am wrong on the run outs decreasing from 90's to now. I just don't care. And I am happy because I was right on my primary observation.

Anyways, someone posted an ODI ATXI based on fielding earlier. I thought I'd suggest Boult but I'm shocked to see he's only played 66 ODIs.

Even more surprised to see that he's only been playing for 6 years and is 28. Thought he'd been around for way longer.

He made a comeback not too long ago after being out. Playing the current Test v SL.

For all that, Cevnoing is certainly not as dire as all the Gambhiring which goes on in match threads, and which will no doubt kick off properly once India starts the test matches against England soon.
