Root and no Babar? How can you miss the top scorer of the year?

Also prefer Smith to Labu. More consistent.

Joe Root had a pretty average year by his standards. Rest seems fine

Babar over Root for sure. Jansen over Rabada maybe? Lyon a bit meh in this company but probably is the best choice for spinner I guess. Mitchell unlucky to miss out.

I'd put Scott Boland or Jansen in there ahead of Rabada.

Marco Jansen has to be there , basically the breakout Test star of 2022 ...

Not only great stats which isn't everything but the rookie came in and rocked India , preventing them from winning a first ever series in South Africa, also did the business in England, New Zealand and showed fight in Australia ..Left Arm Variety aswell

Root over Babar the only awful selection here. Shafique or Imam would be fine over Braithwaite. Jansen the only other one unlucky to miss the side, definitely amongst that group but not an egregious omission.

I mean its not awful that he’s not in there in general, Babar and Bairstow had excellent years, and Smith didn’t convert a few opportunities to big scores. They probably chose Marnus as a specialist 3, but he’s had a relatively comparable year to Smith. Root being in there is just disgusting. Who the **** picked that

Even as an Englishman its hard to pick Root over Babar.

I'd probably have Smith in there instead of Labuschagne but it's a close call.

I agree that either Smith or Babar should be in ahead of Root.

At 40 years of age he is entitled to the occasional rest (which is as much a selector's decision as Anderson's). Regardless, you can't ignore his 2022 stats (36 wickets @ 19.8).
