Greg? really? Mr Underarm?
I meant Barry, but you know that, but Chappell is certainly class.

Remember talking to a former WI great who said that Chappell didn't stand out like they did, but he would knock the ball around with the occasional spontaneous burst, and you'll look up and he was 50. Underrated player.

Everybody knows Gavaskar in India.
Gavaskar's greatness, his name being known doesn't mean the vast majority of cricket viewers (1990s-2010s) would pick him ahead of the openers they saw and actively followed the careers of.

I have seen many young fans mocking Sunil Gavaskar on social media when he criticised Rohit Sharma and asking if he has the credentials to talk about batting. FFS, Sunil Gavaskar scored more away centuries in his debut series than Rohit scored in his entire test career.

I have never seen anyone tell those things.

His fame is built on scoring centuries against the greatest, meanest & fastest of fast bowlers.

For some reason, cricket fans at least here view the post-1970s fast bowlers with awe and loads of respect
