The Originals

There were two players in an Australian touring side to England who played each and everyone of their team's 47 matches on tour !! One of the reasons offered for this is that one of the team members died of tuberculosis in London and two others left for home early !

The two players who played al the matches were Red Cap and Tiger. The one who died was King Cole and those who returned early were Sundown and Jim Crow.

These were not the only players with odd sounding names. The others were called Bullocky, Mosquito, ****-a-****, Twopenny, Charley Dumas, Mullagh, Cuzens and ...hold your breath...Peter !!!

If you are wondering why they had such ..er..uncommon names , I can only say that maybe because their real surnames were a tad difficult on the tongue. Anyway here they are

Arrahmunijarrimun
Ballrinjarrimin
Bonnibarngeet
Brimbunyah
Brippokei
Bullchanach
Grongarrong
Jallachmurrimin
Jungunjinanuke
Murrumgunarriman
PripumuarramanUnaarrimin
Zellanach

Phew

They were the first overseas team to visit England in 1868 and this team, as is obvious by now, was entirely made up of aborigines. They played 47 matches and won 18 and lost 18 of these.
Their playing attire was white flannels, red Garibaldi shirts with blue sashesand neckties.

Besides playing cricket they were obliged to give many exhibitions of their native skills; dressed in possum skin they staged various field and track events as well as demonstrating the art of throwing spears, boomerangs, and 'kangaroo rats' (a two foot handle with a knob on the end used to bring down birds and small animals) !!

WOW :clapping: :clapping:

Fractured skull and four wickets in just one ball bowled !!

In a match played in London over two saturday afternoons, the side batting first had lost six wickets by end of play on the first saturday.

One of the not out batsmen got into the train for Kennington instead of Kensington and missed the start and was ruled out by the umpire. So one wicket had fallen and a ball was yet to be bowled !

The first ball bowled was a no ball hit towards mid on and as the batsman ran for a single, the fielder threw down the stumps to run out the striker. Thus two wickets had fallen and a legal delivery had yet to be bowled in the over !

The next ball was driven hard and hit the non striker on the head and rebounded to a fielder who caught it. The batsman was out aand the non striker had to retire with a fractured skull !!!

The last man came in but couldnt bat because there was no non striker to bat with him . Hence all four wickets had fallen for one legal delivery !!!

That is so weird. Practically impossible, but it has happened. Won't happen again though.

can you guess the highest nymber of rins scored of a single ball?

let me tell you. A touring side from Victoria played a scratch side from Bunbury in Western Australia. The very first ball of the match was hit into a three pronged branch of a Jarrah tree which was inside the boundary.

The home side claimed ball lost as the batsmen kept on running but the umpire refused saying the ball could not be lost since it could be seen !!

They tried to get an axe to cut down the tree but couldnt find one. Finally someone got a rifle and after many unsuccessful attempts they managed to shoot the ball down.

The batsman, meantime had run 286 !! They 'stood' on that score (I presume that means they declared) and went on to win the match. :D

PS I am sure this must be
- the highest score without a boundary hit,
- one of the highest without an extra, the highest proportion (100%) of the
runs scored by a batsman,
- the highest proportion of balls in an innings sent down by an individual bowler,
- the highest strike rate in the history of the game
- the worst economy rate for a bowler and so on and on and on.....

:gora:
LMAO!!! That's great.

You may not believe this but Punch June 1926 paid homage to the keeping of Parthiv patel !!

To a Bad Wicket-Keeper

Air (The Poem) - 'Oh why do you walk through the fields in gloves....'

Oh, why do you stand on the field in gloves,
Missing so much and so much?
Oh, fat white ****y whom nobody loves.
Why do you stand on the field in gloves.

When the air is loud with my "Heavens above's!"
As you drop each ball that they touch?
Oh, why do you stand on the field in gloves,
Missing so much and so much?

Tid-bits from THE PUNCH

A cricket match was played the other day between dairy-men. It is whispered that both sides were suspected of watering the pitch
:gossip:

***********

Mr A C MacLaren deplores the modern batsman's (Chanderpaul ??) style of standing full-face to the bowler. We ourselves, when playing fast bowling, are more in favour of facing the wicket-keeper.
:fear: :fear:

***********

'Convicts Play Cricket' says a headline. Presumably over the wall was 'out'
:naughty: :naughty:

**********

Hypnotism. already established in the maternity ward and the dental surgery, is now making its influence felt on the cricket field. Members of a Yorkshire club find that they can wake up and play with unusual skill after a period of hypnotically induced sleep. Spectatora are not yet used to the change , and after a similar experience simply wake up and go home.
