Without India, minister fears the worst for Lankan Premier League

Without India, minister fears the worst for Lankan Premier League

Without the balance of power it will destroy cricket. We need a strong anti power to India, may be China or USA :(

The BCCI's suspicions over Lalit Modi's involvement in the Sri Lankan Premier League (SLPL) and its reluctance to allow its own players to participate could even lead to the cancellation of the entire event, Lankan sports minister Mahidananda Aluthgamage told TOI on Thursday.

Aluthgamage went on to add that the absence of Indian cricketers could cripple the league financially and force it to be conducted only at the local level unless more foreign players from other countries are roped in.

While denying that Lalit Modi was involved in any way with the event, Aluthgamage said, "We completely understand the concerns of BCCI. They are the ones who are against Modi and if they are claiming he is a part of the league, we can't do anything else. After Thursday's conversations with BCCI, Sri Lanka Cricket officials will not travel to India.

"The Indian board told us they couldn't send their players for SLPL because they felt Modi is involved in this event. The BCCI also said that Modi is the third party and is working behind the scenes. Right now we are left with two options.

Either we replace the Indians with more foreign cricketers from England, New Zealand, Australia and Pakistan or else scrap the league completely."

The minister also hinted that the tournament could be played only at the local level.

This will only harm India's T20 stocks. Indian players can't play T20 outside of the IPL and SMAT because of the silly BCCI embargo, but the IPL gives Indians few chances to grow, while the SMAT is a laughing stock. BCCI's warped, flawed policies will result in fewer T20-ready players for India.

these logos look so un-sri lankanish. The image of Sri Lankans in my mind is of small soft spoken people. Even their cricketers are not so aggressive. These logos all look so aggressive

This should totally be a logo

Wouldn't worry me a bit if India's T20 future is threatned by it...

India news: Shikhar Dhawan to lead in Emerging Players tournament | India Cricket News | ESPN Cricinfo

This Indians are sending their emerging teams to play against emerging teams of Aus, SA and if not mistaken of Kiwi's too in Aus. This will be good exposure for the players.

BCCI keeps taking such actions. They are very efficient in doing such things, because a quality teams means more earning for them and that means more money. When something is related to money BCCI just goes for it

That's not a bad thing, but the declining T20 stock is. Fringe Indian players could use this to their advantage, and also fill up the thinning T20 stock- with Sehwag and Zaheer less likely to figure in a T20 event. Other countries seem to benefit from such leagues, and very much from the IPL. The players who can make the most of this event are not even India regulars, so they lose little in letting them go to the SLPL, Friends' t20 or KFC Big Bash. They'll have more options for a decent T20I side than what we often see representing India in this form of the game.
