Klusener was in some mad form but that Pakistani side was no slouch either. Could have gone either way if they faced South Africa instead of the Aussie machine

I expect it would. I mean we cry over 2015 and 2019 despite having one of our shittiest squads in 2015 and playing braindead cricket in 2019 when it mattered. Imagine that but ten times worse for the Proteas guys

That Pakistan side was incredibly lucky to reach the final. Lost to India, SA and Bangladesh in the Super Sixes and had an easy semi final against NZ.

SA at that stage had a mental hold over Pakistan so they likely would have won.

1992 - Silly rain rules

1996 - Drop Allan Donald in the QF, let Lara get a century and then choke needing around 80 with 7 wickets left chasing

This was one of the funniest. They would have got through but miscalculated Duckworth-Lewis. The last ball of their last game Boucher just had to make 1 run but dotted it up on purpose because he thought they were ahead on DL. At their home tournament too.

100% true story

They had the Duckworth-Lewis targets printed out on paper in the rooms (it was 2003 . . .) and the target for each over was what they had to get to tie the game. They didn't realise they actually had to get 1 more run than the target printed on the paper to go through. Big **** up.

For some reason, I consider 2011 the worst. They were arguably the strongest team in the tournament, the only team capable of beating India, and needed 113 with 8 wickets at a comfortable run rate against a benign NZ attack, and then chocked.
