South Africa team selection

Unfortunately the all rounders at the time , David Wiese, Chris Morris , Wayne Parnell , Dwaine Pretorius , Albie Morkel , Rory Kleinveldt, Ryan McLaren etc they didn't make the spots their own even Philander wasnt really given more responsibility with the bat than perhaps he could have been given, or the selectors were too conservative, or a combination of both in white ball cricket
..

Every all rounder seemed to be measured up to Kallis which was pretty stupid ..

We should have definitely taken more risks in getting a serviceable 5th bowler seeing that we had 6 or 7 world class players in the white ball side that did the heavy lifting more often than not. (Amla, QDK, Faf, Abd , Miller , Steyn ,Morkel , Tahir)
It's interesting looking at those names. A lot of them got a fair crack.... And now more recently Andile Phehlukwayo.

Not just Kallis but also Pollock and Klusener. Probably our best 3 white-ball seamer ARs since readmission. I mean they were all so different too. How did we not win 96 or 99 I will never know.

If we had to add Andrew Hall, Justin Kemp, Johan van der Wath, Eric Simons, Brian McMillan, Adrian Kuiper & even Richard Snell we've had so many good options to bat deep. In more recent times we seem to have gone more pure batsman and pure bowlers because we didn't trust those guys you mention and you can understand why.

Heinrich Klaasen has retired from international cricket.

Seemed he quickly gave up on test cricket too. Just him the individual I guess.
Yeah probably just trying to make that money now. A real monster hitter in LO games but he couldn’t get us over the line in those knockout games and the T20 final. He still gave us some great performances but it’s his Test career that will always be a “what if?” for me. Especially since Conrad obviously preferred him to Kyle Verreynne but he has made himself undroppable for now.

Since 2023 he's averaging 49 with the bat in ODI cricket at a SR of 107 ..
He's also captained and one of the few batters that bowls in the side so pretty much is a lock.
Plus he is shuks guy. Think a few days ago he said something to the effect he doesn't get why people questions Aiden's spot.

One thing I won't be surprised is if shuks moves him to open.

Albie Morkel, Zander De Bruyn and Jon Kent are another 3. Neil Johnson played for sa a, but realised how hard it would be to be selected so went to Zim...

Monster.

Heinrich Klaasen in ODI cricket since 2023
Innings: 28
Runs: 1,345
Average: 51.73
Strike Rate: 135.58
50s: 7
100s: 3

Retiring on top at age 33
I would have thought the carrot of an ODI world cup at home would have been enough to keep him around.

Don't quite know the story of Ryan Ten Doeschete but from a SA pov he seemed like the one who got away.

It was basically a case of the Dutch team getting there first. We weren't short of all-rounders at the time, so it would have taken some time for him to break through into the South African side, compared to being guaranteed international cricket by playing for the Netherlands.

It's crazy to think we lost Quinton De Kock and Heinrich Klaasen in the space of 18 months , and yet our keeping situation isn't bad at all ..

I think it was the right decision by Heinrich , Rickleton is a class keeper bat option and him retiring opens the door for the likes of Brevis in the middle order .

Hundred up for Ackerman as the rain arrives. Faster than a run a ball. Guess who also wants to break the stereotype of being a red ball specialist...

Marques has had a very confusing career, he's always been a tremendous stroke player , I mean his FC SR is 76 which is rapid in anyone's book yet he's never found a way transfer that into white ball cricket. Incredible to think he's never scored a white ball hundred in his career at 29 years of age in either List A or T20 cricket , I think the move to the Dolphins has helped him a lot but geez this is one player whose career should be a lot better than what it has been.
