Not all puns can be amusing, certainly on some subjects. Sometimes it just has to keep-up the flow.

Yeah that would be fair enough if it wasn't cutting down the sample size by almost 90%. Smith played about 8 matches against Australia and rarely made the runs, but that's not many matches, it's not enough to say he couldn't. It could simply be the case that a lot of his bad days happened to come against Australia, that he got a disproportionate amount of literally unplayable ones, bad decisions or every mistake led to a dismissal in those games. I don't think this is the case for Smith, but the point still stands.

Also, aussie's suggestion was using game against Australia in Australia, which trims it down so much that it's not viable at all.

Not only that, but the definition of a good batsman isn't one who performs against the best team in the world at that time. Surely fans would prefer a batsman who performs generally well against everyone, rather than fantastically well against Australia and mediocre against everyone else. In truth, a poor record against Australia is just a glitch on a batsman's record, much like Warne in India.

Of course, and yes performing well against Australia and poorly against everyone else wouldn't be an indicator of a good batsman. I think, all things being equal though, strong performances against everyone and poor performances against a strong attack over a period of time is suggestive of something lacking. People on here try to use Hayden's poor performance against Ambrose in the 90's as an example of him being a flat track bully, saying he struggles against good swing bowling...who doesn't struggle against good swing bowling!? (Not saying you said this either...just added it on the end...not sure why! haha)

TBH though, i'd say compared to previous series, Australia & England early this year have not bowled full enough to Smith. They have been wayyyyyy too short & has a good player he has cashed in.

Still have question marks about him againts a good pace attack in test conditions.

Perth, yes. MCG? No. There were short balls bowled to him, but there were full pitched ones too, which he attacked with the cover drive or the on-drive according to the line of the ball. Yes, he was beaten a couple of times, but that hardly takes from the fact that Smith the batsman (as well as the captain) has evolved considerably in the last year and half.

Smith has faced English, Indian and now Australian pacers and I don't know what more a batsman need to face to be proven good against pace.
