and if pitches have gotten flatter and ODIs have become easier to score runs in then shouldnt there be a significant increase in batting averages, yet 3 out of the top 5 ODI batting averages are by players from the 80s. either that or the quality of batting has gotten worse.
Hmmm.

True, 3 of the top 5 ODI batting averages are players in the 80s, but then 5 players out of the top 10 are from the 80's, then just 7 out of the top 20.

The likes of Abbas, Turner, Sir Richards(the 3 batsmen from the 80s that are in the top 5 ODI averages) are considered to be great batsmen. It's no wonder that they are in the top 5 ODI batting averages of all time. Abbas has a test average of 44.8 - good. Turner has a test average of 44.64 - again good, and Sir Viv has a test average of 50.24 - incredible.

Whatever it takes!!!
Yep, I still don't see the merits of having Hayden in the ODI side. It is not like he is as good in ODIs as he was in tests. He is always built up as this aggressive opener, and yet his strike rate is pretty poor for all that build up.

In the VB series game between aus and pakistan when aus were in trouble simon katich came to their rescue. but what do u read in the articles....the poor guy is going to be dropped from the team. why can't they drop symonds and give his place to katich? At least katich won't go for a duck!
Hahaha, sometimes life bites you in the ass, like that.

To be fair though, somebody who's come into the game with the understanding that it's likely temporary and that they'll be in and out of the team as rotation/resting cycles demand, isn't really "dropped" when they don't make the next game. Katich is being reassured constantly by the selectors that he's in their thoughts, which is not the worst place to be when a side is strong and is hard to get into.
