Its weird that even after making almost hundred runs for the match it feels like a failure from Smith
I was thinking this myself.

Against an attack of Rabada, Philander, Morkel and Maharaj he's scored neatly 100 runs and that feels like a failure.

When I think about it logically he's had a good game against a strong attack. But emotionally he's had a crap match. I kind of expect him to make a hundred every time he walks out to bat. His current quiet patch is two matches in a row where he's only scored a half century.

Back to the OP, obviously it's too soon to properly compare these blokes, but one thing they do seem to have in common is a better ability than most to score runs across a lot of different conditions and countries. Certainly sets them apart from a lot of their contemporaries.
