Ryder playing for Ireland!?

Sadly, Jesse did not make much of an impact on debut, Ireland got rolled out for 63. Ryder, was castled by Aussie Ashley Noffke for one.

I'm pretty certain that he'll need to do his four years residency even if he does have an Oldham-born Grandfather (makes me think of the Union grannygate scandal actually, as Brett Sinkinson, the kiwi-taff flanker "qualified" for Wales on the grounds of an Oldham-born grandad; close but no cigar :p). I don't think a British grandparent even guarantees you a UK passport (although I think you'd probably get UK residence on grounds of ancestry) & guys like Trott & Pietersen who do have UK passports had to do their 4 years.

It helps, but it's not guaranteed. Having a British father makes you a shoo-in though.

On topic, I hope Ryder does well, but I'm not holding my breath. He's basically a left-handed Craig McMillan, and apparently has an appalling attitude, which explains why he's never been seriously considered for NZ selection.

Bloody good player. Him and Ross Taylor are the most talented batsmen the Kiwis have had since Martin Crowe.

Many a day I've whiled away watching Jesse down the Basin, knocking bowlers about for fun. Didn't have the greatest of seasons this year. It looked as if he'd added at least 3 chins and two pneumatic tyres to his frame since last season.

Also, his bowling 'dibbly-dobblies' shouldn't really see him classified as an all-rounder. He'd never get picked for his bowling, and should really concentrate on losing some weight, laying off the sauce and scoring runs.

I think when I was playing against Naenae this year (on about the 7th pitch or so), he clattered a boundary that reached us from the number one pitch. Seriously big hitting (from a seriously big man)

Welcome HeathDavidSpeed - great name.

As far as indepth investigation goes, that "article" gets a 0.5/10.

I had plumped for HeathDavisAteMyHamster but it wouldn't fit. Neither would HeathDavisInaccuracy or HeathDavisBrokenRadar and I thought HeathDavisWide would have given the wrong impression.

Idea number four was HeathDavisSpeed.

An often forgotten legend.

Judging from "on-tour" stories I heard from one of Heath's former Wellington team-mates, it might be a good idea that his legend is forgotten... :D

Why is it that Kiwis have the best 'on tour' stories, eh? Makes you wonder how Daryl Tuffey's Milkshake brought all the girls to the yard.

And if he is a left handed Craig McMillan (I find that amusing as on Ricky Ponting cricket I changed Craig McMillan's name to Jesse Ryder:laugh: ) then no, just no. A player that doesn't realize thier talent is not what we need, I'd rather select someone that can peform better than thier ability suggests like Fulton, Styris etc

Though a bad attitude in this day and age in pro cricket wouldn't be tolerated and the senior players would beat it out of him pretty quickly IMO.

I would have thought Fulton performed under his potential his shown at domestic level, then anything else.

Fulton wasn't that great at the start of his career (thanks to being forced to open) but now he is showing his talent.

So you're right in a sense, Fulton should not have been mentioned as an overachiever.

Still reckon he is relative underachiever, then overachiever, even when you take into account his had to open the batting. Going by his talent he should be averaging 35ish in ODIs and 40ish in Test.

Not Terrible
I was never a fan of Fulton until this recent CH series, our top order had collapsed chasing a mammoth total. Fulton is in, and he usually plays rather defensively but next thing you know he went wild on the Australians and sparked our team into a victory IMO.

Showed a lot of class and hes kept it. Hopefully he will continue performing in a way that benefits the team. Top cricketer.

Yup. TBH I was one of the people who wanted him dropped after the CB series. Though now he starts reasonably safely, launches at around 15 then goes on to score reasonably. I think he's a better No.3 now than Taylor, who has more talent but is inconsistent.

He's also a better ODI opener than half of the domestic blokes.

Though I have a gut feeling that once How matures a little he will make an excellent test opener. I also get the feeling that if Taylor doesn't get any runs soon he might go into the middle order...

Fulton has a good head on his shoulders and a big ticker. Two pretty good things to have if you want to succeed in international cricket. He'll go alright.

Do you think all us whiteys are actually from Africa or something?
Of course not.

Can I get a Irish passport (although I think my surname has links with Wales as well) then since my ancestors came from there about a 150-200 years ago then?
