Williamson just needs to play more Tests.

Root needs to start scoring more centuries, 13 is way too low for a batsman of his class after 73 Tests.

kane has one proper challenge of pakistan in the UAE soon which he passed last time and hopefully will again

then he has some nice home track bullying to do against the mighty suranga lakmal and rubel hossain so i'm sure we'll get plenty of drive by richards calculating his true average.

it's a bit dirty kane and ross might both reach 20 tons against rubel. sad.

Root has been badly affected by the captaincy (which I don't think is helped by the fact that our top order is useless everywhere not just away from home like the Indian, Australian and New Zealand batting is), after we stopped ****ing about tryinging him as opener and put him back into the middle order in 2014 he scored 3639 runs @ 59.65 until we gave him the captaincy, granted his conversion rate is still awful during this time, but he was still reaching at least 50 in just shy of half of his innings. Since he's been captain he's only managed 1560 runs @ 45.88.

The last innings NZ played in the UAE they got 690. The last red ball innings in Australia Ross Taylor got 290. We also got 500+ last time at Lord's (and somehow lost). I admit that NZ's top order is useless in South Africa and India

Well, that's like India making runs in Sri Lanka (similar conditions in terms of bounce and facing a spin-oriented attack which they are more comfortable with). Presumably, India's top order would do OK in UAE also though we can't know that for sure, but it's a fairly safe bet.

We also scored 629 last time in SA, 400+ 3 times last time out in India with 537 in the first test and posted 491 in Aus. Doesn't mean that we're not useless overseas....

most teams have scored some big runs overseas recently. it's been doing it twice in a row that's the issue. touring sides are still competing but often can't deliver the knock out blow in a match or a series.
