Road to the 2019 Ashes

If Lyon was to get injured we would be comprehensively screwed, but in the event (heaven forbid) that he was, I would probably rather they go to Maxwell and an extra pacer than bringing someone like Holland in. Strong at domestic level, but he has never even remotely looked like transferring that ability to international cricket

Test match performances.

When in history has an incumbent been dropped from the Australian side after forcing their way into the side after years of solid performances and then scoring a big hundred?

I know some question his technique but he looks so much more at home at test level than Harris.

If we're going to drop Burns it should be for both Bancroft and Warner. Because he absolutely should be there ahead of Harris, who seems to have massive flaws in his game.
Agree. Saying that Burns or Patterson should be dropped because of a couple of bad scores in warm up games, is to totally have no clue about selection.

It's like having amnesia every time there's a break of a few months between Tests

I feel like you're not paying attention. No one is talking about "a couple of bad scores"

Stunned he didn't make the squad, im reallu suprised about the Behrendorf selection, and Coulter-Nile given he's injured at the moment....so they are considering Hazelwood to be a red ball cricketer nowadays then??
He's been injured for a while and barely bowled. There's no guarantee he'll be match fit let alone at international standard for the World Cup. They haven't simply "not picked him". Wanting him to be right for the Ashes probably plays a big part as well. NCN being picked doesn't make sense though

Pattinson always impresses in tests. He's like Shane Bond, it's only been injuries interrupting his career, he's never been dropped(i don't think?)

Australia A to play England Lions and then play the Australians. Then the Ashes squad is announced. Who are these Australians, the unannounced Ashes squad?

Any pitches in England warrant a pace quartet of:

Cummins
Starc
Pattinson
Hazlewood

At least them Maxwell will also get a spot :)

Wait, you blokes can't seriously be suggesting Harris deserves to retain a place in the test side ahead of Burns?
Harris scored runs at Shield level, Burns didn't really. If Harris scores runs in warm-ups but Burns doesn't, does Burns still deserve to get picked?

Most Shield attacks > that Lankan one IMO.

not necesarrily, not at this moment. If you paid attention to the discussion you'd notice this was based on the hypothetical scenario that Burns was in terrible form pre-ashes and failed utterly in the warm ups/A games compared to other players

Personally Burns should be pencilled in but there's a heck of a lot of time between now and the Ashes. I doubt Burns is under any illusions that he's locked in anyway.

Burns is a bit of a Marcus North type character, even at state level. He gets out for a lot of low scores. But when he does get in he tends to go large. Harris is a bit the opposite - he's generally good for a Watsonesque 30-80 but doesn't tend to go on.

Burns definitely looks better at test level though. Harris will be Broad/Wood's bunny if he's picked. Burns will probably be Anderson's bunny but has a chance of actually winning something for us.

International Regular
Open with Maxi and use him as a Sehwag
Open with Warner; he already is a Sehwag, with comparable test numbers and comparable home and away performances.
A moderate upgrade over Maxwell whose record is just about good enough for a number seven test batsman.

God i hope they don't do something stupid like playing Wade over KP as a specialist bat or something. KP and Head are the next ten years

Seems to me it's the typical sub standard opposition for a touring side...
