can never overtake Root or Woakes thoughViv maybe. He'd need to have a *really great* couple of years to touch Sachin

True facts.can never overtake Root or Woakes though
For those saying Smith was in the BAB conversation, he still is though.People were calling Smith the clear BAB a few years ago and they were wrong then too (though he is closer than Ponting).
Ponting cannot even fathom reaching the heights Smith reached with the 2017 Border Gavaskar Trophy or the 2019 Ashes, everything Smith is doing in his decline in the bowling era, is something that goes in his favour and widens the gap, not minimises it. It's not close, I'm sorry.Statistically Smith hasn't even passed Punter as yet.
2 TBF match/exceed his output, Kohli fell off pretty hard and that can be seen in the averages you posted. We all know the issues with Williamson.
Younis Khan making both lists at 50+, what an underrated player.
TruePonting and Harvey are closer than Ponting and Smith btw
That’s why we also eyetest them which is where Smith is clearly better and has faced clearly tougher conditions and attacksStatistically Smith hasn't even passed Punter as yet.
Good take.True
Ponting never performed in India and actively lost Australia a series in India, one of the greatest series of all time and a very hot series too, Root never performed well in Australia and had no impact on the results, probably couldn't as England were never in a position of winning a game, so negative impact vs net neutral. Root wins.If Root can’t perform in the Ashes in Australia, he’s yet another English dude who couldn’t perform on the big stage. An ATG batter perhaps but not a winner.
Australia and India is nothing like the Ashes in significance for a player of those two countries. English and Australian players are heavily judged on how they perform in the Ashes. It’s also why no Australian here really rates Joe RootPonting never performed in India and actively lost Australia a series in India, one of the greatest series of all time and a very hot series too, Root never performed well in Australia and had no impact on the results, probably couldn't as England were never in a position of winning a game, so negative impact vs net neutral. If Root performs in Australia, then Ponting would be no match of him as he's already inferior, would've to go for someone bigger and better.
Who cares what a few Australians on the internet think? I doubt the English part of the forum rates Ricky Ponting all that much either, English pundits do but the average person? meh. Also, having the worst series any ATG batsman ever had is a lot worse than averaging 35 in Australia against an ATG bowling unit, like this is an effort by an ATG BatsmanAustralia and India is nothing like the Ashes in significance for a player of those two countries. like there's being underwhelming like Root in Australia, and then there's being diabolical.
Their Ashes average is also similar, Root averages 40.47 in Ashes and Ponting around 44.21. I'll let you figure out who plays for the much weaker team, faces much better bowling from Ashes opposition and has played on spicier wickets.
Fair enoughPlease let me have my double standards because Ponting had Swag
You're a guy who rates McGrath higher based purely on his overseas Ashes performances. He can average 45 and it still won't do any good for England, would be better for him tho
