Maybe my maths is off, but wouldn't 90 in 7 be even slower than that? I'm just not seeing why we can't make it, barring weather.

Well, I'm currently watching and complaining about the lazy sods in England (while procrastinating from starting my own shift).
The lazy sods of the subcontinent will get their turn in due course.

But now going and upholding the woefully backwards, inadequate English Test match scheduling norms and practices is just a bridge too far. Get the **** out of here with that bullshit, no one's buying it.

Yeah, the in game penalties and fielding restrictions are the key. Extended hours should only be if a team is slow and they don't make the overs even AFTER taking all the punishments during the day.

They already have an extra 30 minutes iirc. Extending that to 60mins or even 90mins is just plastering over the real problem.
England had no issues with the overrate today bowling all seam, so it clearly can be done.

Well we were 12 overs short at the proper scheduled close of play.
Playing the extra 30 mins we always play.

They got 15 overs in the first hour iirc? Or 14? But then slowed down to only 26 done by lunch. Then got slower. Lost several overs due to Pant's injury, but still quite behind despite 20 overs of spin.

It was 14 in the first hour, but then you have 10 mins for drinks, not surprising they then only get 12 in the next 'hour'. It was noticeable after an afternoon drinks break that England were ready to go but Sai didn't even have his gloves on or was standing at the right end.
I suspect with all the various delays they'll be fine with their rates yesterday.

India didn’t get points docked for just about scraping to 83 overs on day 1 of the last Test, so I think we’ll be fine

Yeah, it was 83, plus they came off 10 mins early, plus the Pant delay (and various others). I thought they were a bit quicker yesterday, although helps if the run rate is always manageable.
They came off 20 minutes late. The extra 30 minutes is over time.
They were better yesterday but still not great. Believe Stokes did get one official warning for going over the stop clock between overs.
