The other side of the coin is that Geraint Jones had a relatively nice looking batting technique but was pretty awful behind the gloves before developing into an ok-ish keeper who couldn't score a run!

I think it's this. He doesn't look unorthodox or like he has a massive weakness, he just generally doesn't look like he's that good at what he's doing while he's out there - certainly not as good as his record, anyway. Gets dropped almost as often as Nicholls too which probably contributes to it.
For me it's actually something about his trigger movement which is really just kind of offputting for some inexplicable reason

Marnus gets negative aesthetic points for that leave where he rotates his bat over the path of the ball after it has long gone, shouting "no run!" when doing so.
