Why is she still playing international cricket? I brought up my disappointment in her in a post about a week ago....

Cricinfo has her as a bowler...but she hardly ever bowls, and when she bats, she sh!ts the bed.

Maybe I'm just moaning and/or jealous, but it does feel like there's a heavy English/Australian bias in these franchise selections generally. OK, these are on balance the best teams, but it feels like the coaching setups are dominated by the same few coaches & they pick only the players they know. It's fair enough, but that means a lot of good players (Fatima, Iqbal, Brits, Bosch, even Samarawickrama) can't get a look in (I'm just using them as an example - I don't even know if they put their names in for the draft, & I can't find the list).
From a narrow NZ perspective, it's eye opening that even being the reigning T20WC champions does nothing in terms of moving the needle for interest in our players, & that with no more clashing bilaterals, that removes a potential avenue of coming in as a replacement except through injury.
And in my mind it's being further confirmed after the WCPL draft. They were selecting Jensen & Jonas years ago (Jonas when she was, frankly, pretty terrible) & now? Not interested. It's really doing my head in. I could probably insert here a rant about how Australians always have a premium on them & that English players get in because their coaches are everywhere, but I just give up at this point.

I don’t get the fascination with trying Dunkley as an opener. I mean Beaumont and Jones are both better options there than she is. Dunkley is far more useful down the order.

I guess as they clearly are not going to rip up the squad as picked, the first short term move for me has to be to give Paige Scholfield a chance, probably at No4 instead of Beaumont. She isn’t exactly a spring chicken at 28/29, so it seems pointless picking her in the squad just to have her running drinks. Get her in, if she does well she becomes a decent option for a few years, if she flops, we move on to other youngsters like Scrivens, Perrin, Smale and Grewcock.

Please, please, please retire DWH and play Dunkley in the middle order. This has been a shambolic series so far with bat and ball.

Who opens in this instance? Beaumont presumably moves back up, but with who? Jones?
Maybe, or you bring in Scrivens or try someone else. But DWH has played nearly 300 internationals averaging in the early 20s. There is no risk in dropping her.

She'll certainly be vulnerable. I'd probably assess where Danni's at - sometimes if a player's going really badly, they need to be taken away from the spotlight and given that break to reset," said Knight on Sky Sports after the second defeat.

This is what is frustrating and no wonder people claimed the side was so matey-matey. Absolutely no sense of ruthlessness regarding underperformance. We'll just let them find their way back, etc. Screw that. This is professional sport and you're there to win. You think Australia is that sentimental.

Our whinging seems to have worked. DWH and Dunkley do well as openers and everyone else failed miserably. Can't make it up.
