Surprised they hadn't tried it sooner. She's always been one of the more correct players and was perhaps wasted at 6. You're far more likely to get a long innings out of her there than you were Capsey at 3.

I see Ecclestone has had a bit of a setback and is now a doubt for the India series. Smith seems to have become a very able deputy though and is perhaps ahead of Dean now.

Shame Wong and Gaur weren't given games in this tour. Great that Arlott took her chance but we know what Bell and Cross can do.

I'm not surprised at all with this contracting round. Devine & Jensen out, Illing & James in. My usual gripes around the likes of Gurrey aside, it's OK. I like both of them, & think they can both do well.

Maybe I'm just moaning and/or jealous, but it does feel like there's a heavy English/Australian bias in these franchise selections generally. OK, these are on balance the best teams, but it feels like the coaching setups are dominated by the same few coaches & they pick only the players they know. It's fair enough, but that means a lot of good players (Fatima, Iqbal, Brits, Bosch, even Samarawickrama) can't get a look in (I'm just using them as an example - I don't even know if they put their names in for the draft, & I can't find the list).
From a narrow NZ perspective, it's eye opening that even being the reigning T20WC champions does nothing in terms of moving the needle for interest in our players, & that with no more clashing bilaterals, that removes a potential avenue of coming in as a replacement except through injury.

My NZ bias is probably coming into play here, but as an example, I'm struggling to see why Mady Villiers got picked up and Eden Carson didn't.

The Sixers decided to shoot themselves in the foot. It's fortunate they pre-signed Kerr or they'd have messed that up as well.
