you wouldn't think so, but look at sinclair's record and i'm sure you'll agree with me.
Coincidence, I'm fairly confident.
Why should there be any real difference?

not sure, maybe because sinclair has been a number 3 for most of basically all of his cricketing career, IMO i think it might have something to do with him liking to go out to bat early in the innings instead of waiting round, he seems like the sort of person who gets nervous waiting to bat, that may even be the reason why he has been made an opener.

If one of those 200\150s had happened to involve a nightwatchman I'm pretty confident each one would still have happened.

who knows, might even be a psychological thing like that only one wicket has fallen, i don't know, no way of knowing these things, ATM anyway.

i've heard worse ideas, that track he got 7/28 on the other day was 'quite a good pitch' apparently, infact i heard that straight out of nick horsley's mouth
yeah he's doing well domestically, but at 30 years of age do we want to bring him in for a season or 2????????? I'd rather look at Gillespie or Thompson........

& what happened to Mason as the bowling cover????????

ok so based upon the domestic form to date.....

*Papps has yet to post double figures - not the form for selection IMO;
*How racks up his 3rd ton on the trot - #1 for me..........;
*Sinclair opens with him and also scores a ton V Tuffey & Butler - probably got him consigned to #2 spot for mind.........;
*Mills grabs 5 for.........;
*Franklin gets 4 as does Adams....;
*Butler gets pasted..........;
*Macca does nothing.......;
*Vincent, Fulton, Taylor, Stewart & Ryder have also been amongst the runs while not dominating the scoring to date..........

so I'd expect.............
How, Sinclair, Fleming, Styris, Astle, Oram, McCullum, Vettori, Franklin, Mills, Tuffey.............

but if Styris or Astle struggle then perhaps an opportunity for someone from the latter group to get a chance - although unlikely IMO unless the top order is really on fire.............

There's not that much difference between three and four; someone who is a three shouldn't have too many problems at four.
The opposite is definitely not true though IMO.

Seems a pretty good Team to me !!

I only wonder if Hamish Marshall should be given a run in the Test Team to see what he can do in Tests !! (I know he's generally regarded as an ODI specialist ATM. But if he scores heavily in the ODI's leading into the Tests then he should be given consideration for the Test Team in my opinion).

Does anyone think there's a chance Jamie How could be called in at the expense of McMillan or replacing Harris when the OD squad for SL is named this week?

I realise it would still be hard for him to get on the park (Fleming, Astle, Sinclair, Styris, Marshall, Oram and Cairns looks like a pretty solid top 7, with Styris' bowling helping his cause) but just being in the camp could perhaps take the edge off mentally for How if they are looking at playing him in tests this summer.

Oh, yes, but they're not fairly average.
They're either extremely good (at home) or almost-without-fail-downright-poor (away).
Average is somewhere in the middle, which they don't tend to be very often.
yes so overall they are average, which is precisely the point. and please remind me where this series is taking place home or away?

Without flicking back through the archives I presume Richard is talking about NZ's test form?

It has really only been down right poor this year. If you look back over the last 3 years we've actually done pretty well overseas with the exception of the ill-fated tour of Pakistan.

Draws in Sri Lanka, India & Australia are commendable while we also won in The West Indies for the first time.

i might be alone here i'd rather see adams given a go in the tests ahead of mills, he's a very good bowler in NZ conditions but is seen as a one day specialist because of his skill set, he probaly hasn't earnt it yet especially since mills got a five-for, but if he stays amongst the wickets i don't think he would make too badder test bowler.

Everyones had their say so ill have mine. This won't happen but i'd like to see them open with Fleming and Papps, with Sinclair at 3 Fleming has matured as a batsmen over the last few years.Ian Chappell said the other day we have always had strong middle orders but weak top-orders and with 6 losses out of 8 matches now is the time to address that top order.

Fleming plays straight, has matured, sinclair plays well square of the wicket and IMO is better suited to 3. I have always been a big fan of papps and thought he should have gone to the 2003 world cup. We could have done with the other top order option.

How has obviously done well recently. He has scored some runs recently, but i want to see him earn his call-up. To often in the recent times we get over excited about young talent, remember vincent, and they don't progress, lets not make the same mistake again.

Am i mis-guided here and the only one but what about Andre Adams as a test-match bowler? We have lacked a bit of pentration in our opening attack( an area that has been missed out of all this talk about the top-order, but equally important). Andre is not obviously at 145km's pace but is sharp enough to pose some problems in opposition batsmen. He is more than handy down the order too.

So, my team:

Fleming
Papps
Sinclair
Styris
Astle
Oram
Mccullum
Vettori
Adams
Mills (If you doubt me here, look at Auck v Cant)
Tuffey

An attack of Tuffey, Mills, Adams, Oram, Vettori.

Anzac, going by my team i favour a 5-5 split, as oppsed to the 6-4 split you do, but thats opinion.

adams as a test bowler?

i'm not sure. . . . i think he is more suited to the one day game as he seems to be a bit inconsistent. . . but that was a few years ago and it would be interesting to see how he goes in the rest of the state championship.

Stryris has got to come at #5 or #6 after Astle.Styris is much better at these positions.

How will never get in to the OD team even if he is selected to the squad.
