Great start for Malinga 0/11 off two overs. A bit disppointed they didn't play Kappa at 7, would of been a good chance. I rather Dilshan and Thilan bowl then Dilhara right now.

I am disappointed in the SL Team Management for failing to give Kapugedera and Weerakoon their frst Test caps .

They could've dropped Murali or Bandara and given Weerakoon a go. Likewise Dilshan or Samaraweera could've made way for Kapugedera .

Another instance of SL selectors missing an opportunity to blood a couple of promising youngsters !! :@ :@

Add Prasad to that too, but then again we have to respect Bangla a little, you can't just send a A side against expect to win. You are pretty much asking to lose.

Does it really matter even if we lost if we played some youngsters ?

BTW I really doubt they would lose if they played Weerakoon for Bandara and Kapugedera for Dilshan . There would be still enough experience in the Team .

Yes it would cus these youngsters would be seen as scapegoats. "Your not good enough to play Test Cricket cus you couldn't even beat Bangladesh" Also Weerakoon is not really a youngster, 28yo.

Bangla look like they are taking the game to us 0/40 off 5.5, there not holding much back. Time to bring on Murali.

Bangladesh 234/11 (76.5 ov)

Cricinfo getting a bit carried away. And if you click on the scorecard it actually shows all 11 batsmen as having been dismissed, strange.

AMAZING STATS.

598 (will surely get his 600 in this game) in his 101st test match !

A five-for once every two test matches !!

Could this guy end up with a thousand test wickets ?

In the last six calendar years (2000 to 2005) he has taken 357 wickets and he has missed a few games too.

He will be 34 this April. Its not an impossibilty.

The mind boggles.:-O

Despite being a Sri Lankan, I have little doubt that Murali owes a lot of his success to playing most of his Tests at home and this coupled with his playing more tests against weaker opposition has no doubt helped him accelerate and get there pretty quickly.

But that's not his fault if he does not get the opportunity to play more against tougher opposition (ie Australia/England/SA/India) or that he does not get an opportunity to play away from home more.
He can only play against Teams that SL are pitted against (more often than not). :)

He does do better against the minnows (naturally) but he has an amazing record againt non-minnows too. In the last six calendar years hw has (other than against Zim and BD) 253 wickets in 41 tests at 22.00 each - better than his career average against all comers !!

Thats six wickets (almost) a test still.

And he has 24 five-fors in these 41 tests, thats much better than his career rate of one in two !!

But those Tests against non-minnows were mostly played at home rather than away , that obviously helps !!:)

Tha is perhaps true to an extent but even then his figures are mind boggling unless we assume that there is a non cricketing element that helps him at home.

He has played ONLY five matches against Bangladesh before this one. Thats a small number out of 101. He has played 14 against Zimbabwe and although Zimbabwe werent such a poor side all these years, I took out the figures of both these teans and we have.

Tests : 82

Wkts : 463

- 5.6 wkts per test

- Average : 24.3

- Str Rate : 59.4

- 5 fors : 37

- one every 2.2 tests

- 10 fors : 10

- one every 8.2 tests

These are still remarkable figures and will take some beating.
