*** Official *** South African Domestic Season 2020/21

Is Malcolm Nofal involved in any capacity with the franchises at all? Very good player and went quite well in New Zealand. Surprised to see he's not involved with any franchise cricket now that he's moved back to South Africa.
He's at Easterns, a three-day team that feeds the Titans. Hasn't got a contract but it wouldn't surprise me to see him pop up anyway.

He's apparently off to play Irish domestic cricket in the winter.

Frustrating what happened with the Pool A with only 2 games out of 6 possible with the Dolphins & Knights advancing.

Cobras, Warriors & Lions next.

Squads.

Lions.

Josh Richards is injured.
Hawken back from injury.
Gauteng's Mitch van Buuren gets his first Lions call-up. Very interesting cricketer.
Diseko the other semi-pro player from North West.

All changes at the Cobras.
First time call-ups for Ben Ward (leg-spinner who has played for Jersey), SWD's Jean du Plessis (former SA U19 wicketkeeper) & Boland's Christiaan Jonker & sla spinner Siyabonga Mahima.

Some interesting thoughts from Prince re: the Cobras squad. Wonder if he will be the WP coach next season.

KZN Dolphins will remain under one umbrella with Durban and Pietermaritzburg so whilst KZN Inland will start in Division 2 they will be planning together. So expect someone like Robbie Frylinck to be going to PMB.

Also Sen doesn't want to sign the Dolphins offer of a contract yet. Wants to bat 3/4.

So been doing some math.

128 players are to be contracted in Division 1 next season.

Currently there are 104 franchise contracted players. Of course we know some of those won't be in Div 1 next season. Not many.

So that leaves about 30-35 spots between current semi-pro & returning Kolpaks potentially.

Kolpaks to become overseas not including Amla.
[Van Zyl, Harmer, Abbott, Olivier, de Lange] , Ingram & Wiese (7)
It would be nice to get at least 4 of the first 5 back for domestic cricket.

Kolpaks in County cricket limbo but some will have T20 Leagues to fall back on like Delport, Rossouw, Vilas, Viljoen, Parnell & maybe even du Plooy but less so for Kuhn/Paterson (8)

Uk/Europe passport qualified
Levi, Bedingham, Vasconcelos, Ackermann, VD Merwe, Cohen, Glover (7) but I would be surprised if any of these return to play domestic cricket bar T20

Weather for Pool B looks much better starting tomorrow with Cobras v Lions

There is a real dearth of leg-spinners in SA cricket at the moment. Just Tabraiz and SvB really so looking forward to seeing Ben Ward get some game time. New Lions player Mitch van Buuren also bowls leg-breaks and obviously Jono Bird bowls chinamen too.

Cobras had to match their required ginger quota with Verreynne in Pakistan.

de Zorzi is easy on the eyes. Got himself out but looks the part. This is turgid to watch though. Malan not the best against spin, so, fairly easy to tie down and the Lions got a lot of savvy bowlers at this level.

Jonker seems a weird selection. Scheduled to come in at 7 and hasn't scored a run in years. Coming on 2 years since he played top level cricket.

de Zorzi always looks good, needs to score some big runs will have a real shot for SA. I really wish that Hamza was not discarded so quickly by SA powers, still think he should be up there with van Tonder and Petersen. I hope he scores big again soon and gets his shot.

Paarl is always turgid. Just that sort of pitch. The look of the venue is great but the pitch needs a change. To often a slow road that has a serious bias for teams batting first.

They where talking about it earlier, apparently took time off because of some personal mental issues... no details but is now back at top level cricket.

Pleasing to see Jean Dup get his franchise debut.

Hope he moves to play Div 1 cricket next season.

Don't want to be overly critical but like TTBoy says , if you don't get Janneman out with spin you will at least tie him down and lead to a dismissal later. And now out.

Lions have still got to bat but Prince's job is hanging by a thread if this week goes badly.
