That WC win really looks like such an outlier, apart from that this ODI team has been pretty terrible for going on five years now.

Bit harsh. When we've been at full strength we've been fine. Made semis at the champions trophy and took India closer than India did. Difference is now we don't have warner, smith or Maxwell and head looks like he's been found out a bit.

I mean yeah a lot of the "problem" is that we don't take the format seriously outside of tournament play and thus play junk teams. Witness the ghost of Aaron Hardie somehow still being carted around every game.

That's the thing, our WC squad in 2023 was pretty old IIRC. We've hit the rebuild hard and haven't really found any top-tier ODI players. A few guys look decent but none look like a future superstar.

I can’t think of too many cricketers who have gone backwards as far as Aaron Hardie. 4 or so years ago he looked a potential world beater but he hasn’t just failed to kick on, I really think he’s markedly regressed.
He should have moved to NSW when I told him to

Pretty cool that we are the only team that has a positive H2H record against Australia. Such is their dominance in this format.

Well done lads. Very well done Ngidi
Quite the thumping still even when we had to take 14 wickets.
Stubbs to by the drinks
Hope for the double, take 2 🙏

He's regressed because they've stuffed him into the ODI/T20I teams at the time he was getting established at first class level, with the result that his technique and gameplay has suffered from lack of FC game time. Injuries haven't helped either.

It frustrates that either whims or BBL seem to be the only criteria for ODI selection. With the proven players slowly departing I don't think we know who our best potential replacements are due to so little respect being given to player development in the format.

The regression is true, but tbh I don't think he was ever that good. He played some excellent Shield knocks but in white-ball cricket he shouldn't have even been in the WA first XI based on his returns.

He should never have been anywhere near a white-ball Australian squad at any time. As back up all-rounder in a touring Test squad at best, but even as of last year he was behind all of Green, Marsh and Webster.

I think Hardie had more going for him tbh. He was putting up god Shield numbers back then but as has been noted, he’s been shoe horned into LO sides and has gone backwards at a rate of knots. I think he’s one we’ve ****ed up royally
