Anyways I think we've sufficiently derailed this thread...

To be back on topic...yea Adil Rashid bowled well against good players of spin in conditions that were favouring him (pitch + batsmen looking to defend him) and got 5 wickets. Good job.

Who is the best player of spin in the world? @MoeenAli thinks it's @joeroot05 skysports.tv/ydnDQq pic.twitter.com/fyGqpMF4BS

Not even the best player of spin in his side.

Root is a better player of spin that Cook. Cook is very good but can't ever get on top of a spinner like Root can. He isn't best player in the world of spin though obviously, but Moeen just showing what a ****ing hero/team man he is.

Is Root's ability to dominate that much more important than Cook's ability to grind out ****loads of runs in subcontinental conditions, which is how you win traditionally win matches in the subcontinent?

You could make an argument that Root's superior technical ability makes him far more likely to play those freak conditions-defying innings which can completely change and define a series a la KP, but he hasn't actually ever done that yet.

Yeah you can definitely see why Moeen would say Root. He's naturally going to be biased and pick an England player, and bowling to them both a lot in the nets he'd find Root a lot harder to bowl to because that ability to play really long innings without losing concentration isn't reflected in net play.

To be fair we have no idea about Root yet. Played a couple of nice innings away from home but yet to get a big score (ton) against a couple of decent spinners. Until he does there is no way he can be rated above Cook.

Perhaps, but in England Cook has gotten out to spinners like Lyon where Root has smashed them, not just an Asia thing.

Cook's record in Asia is far more significant than Root's against Lyon, though. He does have a particular problem with Lyon, true, but he's only one bowler.

Yeah in a year or so we may look back and say how did we ever regard Cook as better than Root but until he does it and not just at home then we can't say Root is better.

That isn't to say I don't think he will end up better but at present he needs to do it.
